The missus and I have been home since we took the dogs and cat to the vet this morning. Stripes, the front porch squatter, needed two vaccinations: feline leukemia and rabies. Sophie only needed Bordatella, which we get annually for her and Ace because of our traveling and camping. Ace needed some blood work done to see if the meds he got in November are helping with his liver levels. The visit exhausted him, and he's slept since we got home. K wasn't feeling well yesterday, so I stopped by the grocery store and did our weekly shopping on my way home from school. K sent me 5 text messages telling me what to pick up. Since then, I've been working on marketing and promotion of my books, especially the new one. It is tedious work but necessary when one has a minuscule marketing budget. Fingers crossed that my efforts will generate a sale or two. Monday is a federal holiday here in the US - Martin Luther King, Jr Day. My school is closed for the holiday, so I do get to enjoy a long weekend. I hope to spend a lot of the rest of it working on my next novel. Are you having a busy weekend?

Nothing much going on here for the weekend, I did laundry and baked biscuits this morning. it was too cold to take a long walk so I had a short one. Sounds like you had a very busy day, hope you can work on your book tomorrow.

@RubyHawk The novel I'm currently working on is a story about a ghost, unrequited love, and a father and son trying to find common ground. The ghost if from the father's past. The son is a college freshman learning to live on his own. It is by making itself known to the son that the ghost attempts to connect with the father. The title is "Setting Friday Free."

This weekend is the anniversary of my parents' deaths (one in 2016 and the other [non-COVID] in 2021), so I have been taking it easy. I am against the Uniform Monday Holiday Act and have been since day one, and no one needs kids to be home for the summer harvest anymore. I think the long vacation should be from Halloween into January instead of during the summer. I have thought this since I was in college, studying to teach, back in the mid-1980s. There are so many holidays between Halloween and Ben Franklin's birthday that it makes more sense (especially since it is winter) to have fewer cars on the road. There are always ways to get principals to sign off on family vacations during other parts of the year.

I am in favor of year-round school with short breaks in spring and fall and long breaks in winter and summer. Kids lose so much over the long summer break.

@DWDavis I would not object to year-round school so long as each district, school board, and the local, state, and federal governments guarantee that teachers only taught history, social studies, and civics, without bringing their, their principal's, superintendent's, governor's, state and federal representatives' and senators', our country's figurehead (president) and Administrative State's (dictators) personal political and other ideologies into the mix.
