Short story: A word of truth must be lived to be truth within us

The Zen master was old but not yet ready to die

The old Zen master, Resposh Zerploski, was writing something down in his little black book, that he always carried on him. An inquisitive student asked him, "What did you write just then?" The master smiled, and said: "Writing writes itself through me, and so I record it here for you all." "But when can we read it?" asked the student. "Only after my passing, as, as for now, you still have me alive with you here." "Truth cannot be hidden, and I give it out to you in my words now, but after I die, you might read this book, as a reminder of my loving teaching of you all, whilst I lived." "The truth is everywhere, in life, but I have pinpointed here just a few salient points, as a reminder for you all, of my previously spoken words." "The truth is not a secret, but you only understand it, when you are ready to understand it, from reaching such a point in consciousness, that the truth then shines through to you alive, and not dead, anymore." "Truth is then received without words, and then lived from." "This is enlightenment." "Like, love, the truth of Zen enlightenment must be experienced." The Zen master is a very smart master that the students can learn a lot from.

Yes, it would be good if we could all have such a smart person in our lives to mentor us too. When I had a second-hand bookshop once, I had such a mentor, an old man who had run bookshops, all of his life. He was very wise in his teaching to me of the art of selling books. He used to tell me that every book will sell, at some point in time, as there is a buyer for every book.

We are mostly not receptive to the truth that is clear only to a few. I read a post from Africa that mentions truth that is evident there but not in the eyes and ears of western media. An eighty-plus man lives a contented life and gets his food needs met from his farm nearby. In fact, all his needs are fulfilled and he is contented. However, he is considered very poor by western standards as he does not possess material accouterments which he does not need anyway. In a way, he lives from the truth. It is important to live it even from a minimalist point of view than the bluff and bluster that overpowers the lifestyle in some parts of the world. For them, anything else is poverty.

These days, the truth is not complete in us unless, we have the latest mobile phone etc. There would not be many left like that African man.

@Shiva49 For someone who tries to stay outside of the herd, they risk getting trampled by the herd these days too.

@innertalks Yes, following the herd blindly is the catchphrase now without thinking of the consequences. Happiness is sacrificed in the altar of materialism and living it up. Family life and contentment goes for a toss then

The truth is truth after the author passed away.

I guess the truth is always truth, both before and after he passes away. The Zen master just wanted them to hear it from him directly, while he was still alive.
