The Mitford Series by Jan Karon

Have any of you ever heard of the Mitford Series of fictional books by Jan Karon? I was in Goodwill a few months ago and picked up one of these books because it took place at Christmas, and I love reading books about Christmas. A woman near me told me it was part of a series and I should really start at the beginning because the series is so good. We looked on the shelves and there were a bunch of books there that were part of the series. There are 14 books in the series and I bought 12 of them. Those were the 12 they had. If that sounds like a big expense all at once, it was senior day at Goodwill so I got 25% off, plus I figured I could resell them all on eBay after I read them. It was a slow start but once I got going on the first book, I really fell in love with the town of Mitford, the main character Father Tim, and the people in the town. As I have been reading it, I have been thinking this is a series my mom would have loved to read. She loved reading fiction, but I never heard her mention this series or this author. She died in 2021 and it has been on my mind a lot lately that I hope she got to read these books. So today I called one of her best friends and asked her if my mom had ever mentioned the series to her, or this author. She said she knew my mom loved to read but she never mentioned these books to her. That made me sad. But I had an idea. I asked mom's friend Sandy if she has ever read these books. She said a few years ago when she was very sick, someone gave her one of the books to read. I offered to send her each book when I am done reading t if she thought she might like to give them a try. I told her it's best to start with the first one n the series so she can follow along with the main character's life from one book to the next. So she is going to find that book and see which one it is so I don't end her a duplicate. I hope she likes these books and wants to read them all. I know my mom would have loved them, so somehow I will feel like I am connecting with my mom by passing along these books for her best friend to enjoy.
