Zen koan: Another kind of truth

A Zen master is always taking the right steps in his life

The old Zen master, Taskel Dogorth, was telling his students that in Zen there is another level of truth, to that that we construct from living our life socially. This truth has nothing to do with social living, and everything to do with ourselves. When we find the truth of ourselves, we end the journey to our self. We forget ourselves, and find ourselves, both at the same time. We walk away from life, only to find life alive in us more truly. Then he told them this Zen koan, which he said would help them to reach past their mind, and touch the heart of themselves, for real. "What stops us from being love?" "A lost mind, trying hard to be found," answered one student. "Yes," said the master. "So, find yourself in your heart; do not lose yourself to your mind." The master then added this cryptic-sounding sentence, which was really in no way cryptic. "The sky reaches past itself, and finds God, but the Earth reaches into the sky, and loses itself. Be love, and see God, not your mind, and see only the sky." Yes, it is good to have an active mind, working with a loving heart. An active mind, on its own, without love behind it can be led astray, and cause problems, for the user, and for the world too.

For the mind, "the sky is the limit" means a lot. However, that restricts when it comes to love. We need to go beyond or, in a way, go deeper within us to find love and live it every moment. A conscious living can help us stay the course of love.

For a mind buried in the sand, they do not even see the sky. Only with our heart's eyes can we see beyond all else.

@Shiva49 Yes, we only have eyes of greed with an eye on gain, and what is in it for us.

@innertalks We need to open our eyes and ears as we are purblind and deaf now to live in love in thinking and actions.
