I wrote a post a day or so ago about getting tested for cancer annually. Several of you came back with some interesitng comments. I was curious so I delved into it and found some interesting facts about Cologuard. Cologuard has become pretty popular in the last few years because it is less invasive than the colonoscopy. It is also a better procedure for screening for colorectal cancer. It is helpful in detecting pre-cancerous polyps. The Cologuard can only find 42% of large precancerous polyps but 92% of cancerous growth. It is able to detect the 92% where FIT is only able to detect 74%. The only draw back seems to be that the false-positive is higher at 13%. This rate increases as people age. In reading a rather complex list of things FIT and Cologuard can detect it seems Cologuard wins. Here is the link to what I read:

Thank you for sharing the information of the Cologuard product since I am over the age of 50 and I did one colonscopy test a few years ago with good results.

That's good. If you don't mind the colonoscopy that's great.

@celticeagle The colonoscopy was great to submit to my cardiologist from a test at home.

From what I understand, Cologuard is the gold standard for the non-invasive colorectal tests. Unfortunately my doctor's office uses FIT, but it's at least still non-invasive.

Yes, it is. I've never tried FIT.

I get very sick when going through the prep for a colonoscopy; so Cologuard has been a blessing.

I feel exactly the same way. When I get 'sick' I get very ill. Can't handle it.
