IIT and IIM suicides and caste reservation in India

A few days ago a boy from IIT Mumbai committed suicide. He belonged to the schedule caste(SC), called in India and had availed the reserved category. Going through the news what I gather is the boy suffered discrimination just because he belonged to scheduled class, a lower caste. In India we still have the caste system, the evil effect of which has entered the top class educational institutions in India. Don't we think it's this reservation policy in India that's at the root of all evils and deaths too. Would it be better if the government could support these youngsters from the marginalized society economically than providing them seats in such institutions even if they score less marks. Even in government job sectors a SC or ST( schedule tribe) should just score 35 out of 100 to qualify for a bank officers exam or a administrative job in the government. Such government officials get a promotion even if they don't perform well, just because they are a SC or ST candidate. To qualify for any exam one has to good health both mental and physical and a good IQ. Even the government pays attention to such issues like health, education, proper grooming and to the marginalized category or of the lower caste who are leading a deprived and remove reservation, I think within a few generation people will forget caste system discrimination at least in educational institutions and in job sectors. Support any deprived child or youngsters with his health issues and education is more important. Why doesn't the government schools in India frame the educational curriculum in such a way that students can crack the IIT, JEE CAT or any other competitive exams without coaching. No poor boy can afford coaching. Even such institutions have heavy tuition fees which the poor students can't afford. It's here that the government should come forward to support. Discrimination will be wiped out when each student of India or each child of India get equal treatment where education, and job is concerned even if they are from the marginalized category. Reservation is no solution.

We can't wipe out the caste system that started in ancient times but we can at least remove reservation according to caste.

@RebeccasFarm Actually common people are living together in peace. It's this reservation that is creating the difference.

@aninditasen I just read that it has been proposed to do away with the caste system in Seattle, Washington - in the USA. I hope the bill is passed.

Any kind of discrimination is terrible. How sad the boy killed himself due to it.

It is so discriminatory and outdated to have a caste system. India should certainly do away with it.

@aninditasen There could be a governmental proclamation that the caste system is illegal.

@snowy22315 It's the government that's creating all the trouble. Reservation is hated by all sections of the society in India.

We can't do away with caste system as each Indian is born into a family that has a caste. A child gets the father's surname and his caste too.

Although it is supposed to be outlawed in Nepal, the caste system is alive and well. Government directives mean little.

Government should do away with the reservation policy, that's segregating people. At least educational institutions and offices will be places where everyone is equal.

its a very separatist system. 9nly way itll change is if a new government was put in place, but thatll never happen. why would the high class want to be equaled with everyone from the heavens to the gutters.

@aninditasen - it will allow one to be able to improve thier lifestyle. and what may be left behid will only be signs of jealousy and envy, also bordering on separatism. nobody will be satisfied either way. society can never be or has ever had utopia.

A high caste will not discriminate with a low caste at least in educational institutions and job sectors if this caste reservation is removed.

This injustice will change if the government changes the law of reservation. Let everyone be equal at least in educational institutions and job sector.

It's the government and our constitution that should be changed. Reservation is creating havoc in the society.
