This fills even far-right Newt with revulsion. When you go so fascist that you make a fascist like Gingrich gag, have you gone to far? From Twitter: Newt Gingrich @newtgingrich · 3h The idea that bloggers criticizing a politician should register with the government is insane. it is an embarrassment that it is a Republican state legislator in Florida who introduced a bill to that effect. He should withdraw it immediately.

You have a point, many do these days. I hope the people that voted for Trump and want him back are proud. They surely did a number on this place.

What is going on in Florida is antithetical to what the majority of Americans believe or want and is not the position of our federal government. It is the fanatical rantings of a fringe group of extreme right-wing fascist Republicans whose support comes from scared, angry, generally older, xenophobic white men.

At least you didn't blame it on all Republicans like so many others do. Good luck passing something like that in Florida. I guarentee you it wont happen

As Jim B said, the people in the DeSantis Camp are not really Republicans. They are Fascists using the GOP to push their radical agenda.

@thislittlepennyearns People in Italy love Mussolini at first, too, until they learned what his ultimate goals were.

@DWDavis DeSantis has done some good stuff for the people of Florida. Someone is lives here and has to deal with the reprocussions of what he does. I feel like I can say that.

What the hell happened to the party of Lincoln. Or Reagan, the man who said that the most terrifying words a citizen can hear are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.”

@DWDavis — I think that’s all our politicians have become, period: fearmongerers. I remember the Democrats accusing Reagan of trying to force grannies into eating cat food with social security cuts. And here’s the party of “less government” (always accusing the democrats of wanting big government) now wanting to have government regulation of people who don’t like them?!?!

The right can't win with the ideas they promulgate, so since Nixon, they've played on hate and fear to win votes. Now, they have an entire generation of so-called Republicans raised to believe hate and fear are the way to run a country.

I think he's keeping quiet on it for now, waiting to see the reaction from his fascist base.

@DWDavis Oh, please! Don't I know it. I can't believe we became residents of Florida, but at least we can cast our votes.

I'm not surprised. DeSantis is a textbook authoritarian wannabe dictator.

@DWDavis Coupled with the attempt to ban the Democrats in the State, you have to wonder if they care about making things better for the populace

Mindblowingly stupid and scary as well. Florida, with all those retirees is crazier every day. A mylotter who lives there tells me how popular DeSantis is. Unbelievable.

DeSantis promises to protect them from the Boogey Man. The Boogey Man being anyone different from them in color, ethnicity, religious faith, or ideology.

This sounds crazy to me, not that I know much about US politics. They used to say Australia is ten years behind the US but I hope we're a bit further than that.

Hopefully, what is currently going on with the right-wingers here won't be repeated in Australia. Maybe you folks will learn from our mistake in letting it get this far.

@DWDavis I hope so but humans don't seem to be really good at learning from the mistakes of others.
