My husband and I both got one of these 23andMe genetic kits. I got the generic kit, and my husband got the plus the one that also does the medical because his parents don't share anything when it comes to medical history. The ones that can be genetically pasted one. My parents share that information with me. So, it's going to be interesting to compares ours with each other and see where things lead back to.

Why because your scared to find things out about yourself? It's not like your they don't have your blood every time you do blood, labs, every time you do a pee. This is no different it just shows you where you might be from in the world and the medical one can tell you what you're at risk for without having to go and insurance get a note from the doctor as to why. Because insurance won't do it without a cause and the doctor might not see a reason and you could be at more chance for something like cancer, or diabetes or some other genetic marker.

@ShyBear88 I would never voluntarily give my DNA to a private company who can do whatever they want with that information. Legit medical institutions cannot and do not genetically test your blood and urine samples unless it is ordered by your doctor for a legitimate reason. It is illegal for them to do otherwise.

@NJChicaa You do know they have spots that you can tell them no right. Let I just went through all the waver spots and you can deny consent to anything you won't allow. Your DNA is already out there every time you go to the doctor and that is willing you give it up of course you can say no but that does put at risk for them not getting answer. Even then its also do through a lab and you have to concent to it. They even have a hippa waver and my husband read through it all with him having background in both insurance, and medical law nothing was illegal. Its you legally tell them what they can and can't do. I told them no to not add this to research. It won't even tell me if any family members do something without asking your family directly.

@Virtually2021 I told my husband I'm going to laugh if your medical part comes back saying you're more likely to be bipolar. He is like that is a no brainer we already know that.

I have read about the 23andMe genetic kits which are useful to learn about my medical history based on my relatives. I have yet to order one.

They take your spit and run to see where your genetic makeup originates from to a certain level. The medial one is good if you're unsure of your medical or family medical history. My husband wants to know so that we have a better understand for our kids.
