Short story: John's heighty dream

John was dreaming that he was in a college lecture theatre, which was crowded, when he entered the room, and so he moved past the door into the centre, where it was less crowded to take a seat there. He found a seat.
The chairs and tables were very high, about ten feet off from the floor, and the students had to climb up into them to sit on them.
There was no place to put your bags under the seat, and so you could not get into your bags easily, if you wanted to do so, and the desk was very small, hard to put more than one small notepad onto it.
The height of the chairs and table made it a bit scary, as you might easily fall from the chair, and injure yourself, if you fell asleep there, from the boredom of the lecture.
If the students left their bags down on the floor, there was a security risk; somebody might tealeaf them away, with the students up high on the seat, not noticing, as it was not between their legs, or under their seat a bit, as it would have been on normal heighted seats.
John was a bit annoyed, and thought of just leaving, but then he decided to stick around to hear the lecturer out, but without taking notes, which was a bit hard to do, under these conditions.
This dream simply shows John that to learn anything truly, he must lift himself above his mind, and learn from his heart, by elevating his heart above his mind, and not worry too much about worldly concerns, regarding the learning.
We all must raise ourselves above the mundane, and live at a higher level of consciousness. We all ride the swing of life, but if it is to swing freely, it must not be hindered by worldly thoughts alone.
It was interesting here that all of the students had to raise themselves to a higher level, to achieve the required learning here, not just John.
This shows John, that he does not see himself as above others, but on an equal pegging with them, although they must all lift themselves up in life, to achieve anything worthwhile, as must John too.

To swing through life, it is good to see the meaning in our dreams.

My mind wandered all the time and at times I thought I was relaxing that way when cooped up in the classroom with some teachers testing my patience.
Later in my working life, I followed the same pattern when I was caught up with intractable issues.
I had seen a few with a higher level of concentration to the extent they did not need to go through the lessons later.
As I mentioned earlier. my dreams are tough to decipher. It is said, we even forget totally who we are and the self/ego disappears. That could be the same way when we die except in dreams we wake up to the reality here later.

Yes, I never liked to take notes myself at lectures, as the lecturers here at a bad habit of filling the board up before the lecture, so we were always on a catchup in our writing. They would talk, while the students wrote frantically.
I had the view that if the lecturer didn't provide notes of his board writings too, I had no inclination to make my own notes.
I listened, and hoped that that would be enough.
My brother took it a step further than that, though, and he always taped the lecture, and then listened back to them again later.

@innertalks Yeah, some are good listeners and able to grasp the intricacies of the subject matter - quick on the uptake. And that depend on the teachers too to make the lessons interesting.
Later on in life, I made it a point to understand the basics so that I had a good grounding. Earlier I was rather naive and tended to beat around the bush when answering questions in exams.
In my working life, I was brutally honest all the time and that went well with those who mattered.

@Shiva49 At school, they seemed to like embellishment of details to show one had full understanding.
Most stories sound better with some padding added too.
Brutal honesty sometimes only involves bare bones, so there never is any pickings left for others to chew over.
Honesty can also be given softly, so that no one gets pricked too much by it's sharp barbs, although bluntness of manner must be used at times too.
