Southmoore High School band director Adam Mewhorter and trumpet player Casey Hubbard were recently given the 2023 National High School Hearts Of The Art Award (NFHS) on Wednesday. What makes the award special for both Mewhorter and Hubbard is that Hubbard was born with spina bifida which affects his ability to work with the marching band since he has to use a wheelchair. Hubbard who has been with the marching band since 2020 is blessed that Mewhorter Mewhorter managed to find a way for Hubbard to be with his bandmates on the field instead of the sidelines. As far I am concerned the duo deserved their award since Mewhorter gave Hubbard a chance to march in a wheelchair where another band director would have made Hubbard stay on the sidelines. This is a caring band director to get Hubbard a wheelchair to participate in the band

Adam must really like Casey a lot to work with him and give him a chance to work with the band on the field.

Mewhorter was very kind to let him stay on the field with his bandmates.

That is what I like about Mewhorter is that he has a heart of compassion for one of his students who has an illness that prevents him from marching with his classmates.

Adam must really find Casey to be a special band member to play music on the field with his classmates.

I remember hearing self help speaker and author Robert Kiyosaki saying in his audiotape series that "God does not handicap anyone."
