Short story: The connection of the mind, and the heart.

The old Rabbi looked a bit rugged around the edges, but his heart was always in the right place

The old Jewish Rabbi, Rabbi Cretor Reuskin, had the reputation of being a bit of a character. He was obstinate, stubborn, and stiff-necked, in the way that he stuck to his principles. And yet, on the other hand, he was by no means a proud man. He was known for his humility too. He would say that we need to be resolute in following God's commandments, whilst at the same time, being humble in the way that we follow them, not forcing our ways, onto anyone else. Here is how he put it in his own words: "It is love that keeps us humble enough to love, and consciousness that allows us to remember, and follow God's commandments. So, we need both mind, and heart, on our spiritual journeys." "We need to filter our thoughts, and emotions, through both our heart, and our mind." "Our hearts connection to God, and our soul, should bring that influencing perspective to our mind, allowing all of our thoughts to be loving thoughts." "How do mind and heart best work together?" "God lives in your heart, and you in your mind; marry both together, and you will be living a great loving life." He would then chuckle, as he would say: "When we play our cards right in life, we ensure that the pack of cards is the one that has been given to us from God to play with, not by the joker, instead." Thanks. Yes, if we can always do the most loving thing as our choice, we will be living our life in it's best way, for ourselves, others, and for God too.

@flapiz Yes, if more people put love first, in their lives, it would be a better world, indeed.

Yes, the Rabbi's neck seems a bit elongated too. God has given us the right cards and it is for us to make sense of them and then carry on from there to a fulfilling life. However, we tend to look at what others have and then feel short-changed and that approach is the way to misery. Our hearts should be allowed to guide our minds rather than us getting carried away by putting the cart before the horse. The present state of affairs of the world is due to our minds having their way without a thought for heart, love, and God.

In a card game, if we try to see into another person's hand of cards, we might be accused of cheating. Likewise, we should just use the God-given cards we have been given to make our own life with, and not try to "steal" cards from anyone else's hand, through being jealous, or envious, of their particular cards. Each must live their own life, not try to live life in someone else's shoes.

@innertalks Yes, we are given the cards to make our lives meaningful and fulfilling. To aspire for what another possesses is just not on. That also applies to where, and when we are born, and who our parents are. The right approach reflects our trust in our creator. He knows what is best for us.

@innertalks Maybe God would be thinking, why can't we get the basics right before tinkering with those that are better left alone?
