What do you think of cuss words in songs?

I'm a music lover. I like to listen to all song genres, except that I cringe whenever I hear a cuss word in a song. I don't know why, but I was brought up this way. No one ever curses in the family even when extremely angry. I get it that artists sometimes cannot avoid using it to express their emotions in a song, but when it is used very often by an artist, doesn't it reflect on the artist's personality? What do you think?

I think profanity is unnecessary and shows a lack of intelligence.

@1creekgirl No I did not take it like that, I was just saying I am not entirely innocent of cussing now and again lol

@RebeccasFarm I'm sorry, I hope I didn't sound insulting! I wasn't referring to anyone I know, just that musicians often rely on bad language rather than developing a better vocabulary.

I don't like it either. I don't know why they do it though

@Jenaisle It depends on the song and the message they want to tell

I think it depends on the situation because the creation of songs is not always what the artist thoughts and wants, sometimes it's what the management of the artist wants or they do it for a specific purpose. It's still business anyway. I agree with you there are songs that do not align with our values but the reality of this world that we have now is this- --people are enjoying the freedom of expressing what they want to do and say.

Yes, that's right. I just wish that they could find creative means to express their emotions without cursing.

In the US, profanity is quite common, more so among men than women, so some in songs is not thought much of either way.

Yes, songs laced with profanity turn me off. Many artists in Rap or Hip-Hop music resort to swearing as a way to emphasize their views. And many younger people do not seem offended by it.

I do not think it is necessary for artists to curse in their songs, however, if it is what they want to do, I guess its not a big deal, if their is meaning to it would you say?

Indeed, I hope though that they curse only once and not in the whole song?
