How do you keep home safe when you leave it for months

Is it okay for you to travel in other country for vacation like few months and no one be left at home for that long. Because i might go visit another country and stay for few months, I'm planning to buy cctv cameras. So i can see the house by phone while in another country. I asked around. One complete set with 4 cctv and hard disk and cables are included. It cost like about $200 and in another store it's $300. It doesn't include the monitor . I have to learn to connect it myself at home. Hoping it's easy to do. Although I would lock the doors of my home, but it's better if I can check my home online. I am planning to buy smart lights so I can turn on the lights at the front house at night. I still need to check the kind of lights i need to buy

When we lived in Monte Carlo we used to travel to the United States and once we stayed away from home 3 months. It was a very safe place there, we only closed our door.

Well, i can say that our place isn't the safest but it's not that unsafe either,. our house doesn't have much expensive items or appliances . nor are we rich. But then, the people here , the neighbors, sometimes do some vandalism happened once and some other things that's still not acceptable. So just in case something happens while we are away, i have knowledge who did it and maybe file a complaint.

@hotsummer - When we bought this house in 1999, it was a "vacation home" for us. We lived in Monte Carlo until 2006 then we moved here. We had an alarm system installed, but our neighbors were those who checked if everything was fine in our garden and our home.

@LadyDuck you have nice neighbors. It's different here. But i asked some friends to check our house for us but they like a bit far from us. Being busy also they can just check it like every other day at night time.. there's someone living with us right now for free. But i don't feel like i should or could trust her this person to let her be the only one at home. As I was advised by this person's friend also not to let this person stay because of this person's character. So I'm going to ask that person to look for another house when we need to travel .

I will make sure all electricity off, lock all doors and windows, and ask neighbours to watch over when I'm not there.

That would be terrible then if you have no one to stay at your home when you leave for long period.
