I have loads of memories associated with carnations. I was given a bouquet of carnations by my then fiance on the day of our engagement. I cherished them for days and took care of them placing them in a vase changing water every day.
Later I even grew my own carnations but never to match those that I got as a gift.
Carnations are associated with love and romance more than red roses
If you have read the novels Mills and Boons you will come across many romantic stories where carnations are given a prominent place.
What's your association with carnations?

@allknowing oh I assume they are kind of being crowded out or not getting enough sunlight to grow

The first bouquet of flowers my now husband offered to me was a bouquet of pink carnations. We were not even dating, it was my birthday and I received gifts for all the people in the office where I worked. I was surprised to receive flowers from him. He was considered very strict. Pink carnations are a sign of appreciation, red carnations love.

Every colour denotes a different emotion. And at that point in time I suppose red would have been misunderstood by you (lol)

@LadyDuck You are justified in getting annoyed. Now now, you had a boyfriend but you got married to your present husband Very interesting. (lol)

@allknowing - I would have been offended by red, I had a boyfriend and I would have not accepted red flowers.

@allknowing I collected some carnations's photos sold in stores a while ago, I don't know where they are anymore, or I could have shown them to you. Carnations were the first type which got dyed into all sort of interesting colours. These days, I no longer know if they are dyed colours or natural anymore. (They are simply gorgeous.)

@YrNemo Thank you but I doubt if they are real. But are blue carnations symbol of love?
