The server at Chuy’s said that the busted dry-erase board in Purdue’s locker room was “the only thing they hit all day” after their stunning defeat in the NCAA tournament. 
I’m going to make a big hit today, too….not with my head (I’m assuming that’s what made that hole in the board…way too big for a fist) but with another great song from a movie! Here’s today’s tune.
Singin’ in the Rain - Gene Kelly
I’m sure James in Oregon thoroughly approves of this one. 
The rest of you should, too. I mean, this is one of the greatest dance sequences in movie history.
Some people might want to argue about who was best, Astaire or O’Connor (who was also in Singin’ in the Rain) or Kelly. (How about Ginger Rogers, who famously joked that she did everything Fred did, “but backwards and in high heels!” 
) Truth be told, I could watch all of ‘em all day long.
As for why this song wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, it wasn’t “original.” The song actually dates to 1929, and the film Singin’ in the Rain was basically inspired by the song.

I do, too. Even without the visuals. I’ve been known to sing it (or warble it, more precisely) in the rain. I went hiking on a waterfall path in the Smokies when it started raining, and off I went into this song. (Of course, I’d checked the weather radar and had an umbrella with me. )

I read that Kelly started with a 103F temperature to begin with, and filming this repeatedly only exacerbated his illness into pneumonia. Also, Donald O’Connor’s “Make ‘Em Laugh” sequence put him in the hospital as well. Who knew dancing was so dangerous?

I like most of the movie dancing because it wasn’t just tap dancing. Like Fred and Ginger on roller skates that I used earlier in the countdown (“Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off”).
