I grew up believing that the pineapple skin is poisonous

When we bought a pineapple or got it in our own garden we would remove the skin pretty thick and scooped out those black thorns before consuming it However reading some posts here I understand they use the skin to make a juice Just reading that I felt I had taken a sip of the poison And if the entire myLot community tells me it is fine drinking it I will not as since childhood we have believed that the skin of the pineapple is poisonous and therefore skin will go to the compost pit. Have you changed your age old thinking on any topic after reading what is posted here? Image credit:

@allknowing The pineapple skin auctually has health benefits to it. It's not poisonous and it's fine to eat. I know this because my grandma here in the USA grows pineapples and we eat the skin. Just don't eat the thorns or leaves because that's the dangerous part of a pineapple because those 2 things contain enzyme bromelain. Hope this helps and convinces you.

@allknowing yeah I can understand it being hard to believe this, but I promise you I wouldn't tell someone false information. Especially if something is harmful. My advice to you is, trust what you trust.

The pineapple skin is not poisonous BUT pineapple skin can contain bacteria. Those who decide to use it must be sure to wash it carefully. I have not changed my old thinking reading posts here. I have learnt some interesting new things.

Well it is not poisonous but I have never thought of making juice with it. I think I should try it out and come back with the results.

@leighnyork When something is ingrained in one's mind to get out of it will take time

@allknowing Why will it not be comfortable?

Marguicha mentioned making it and drinking it and I am going to try it. How beautiful the one in the photo looks. Very different color from the ones I buy in the store. Is this what they look like when not ripe?
