Most people know about auctions where there is an auctioneer talking very fast advertising items or livestock for sale. Silent auctions are usually sponsered by various entities, church groups, community organizations etc, that allow you to bid on items in a community setting or online some of the benefit gores to the organization if you bid. Onne of the them just started offering items on the Nextdoor site. Not familiar with the community org, that is sponsoring this, but might do a little research. They have a couple of things that might be worth bidding on.

It is something where you usually write a bid or post it, and if you are the highest bidder you get the item.

Yeah, new to me, but I might make a bid. I have to do a bit of research on the organization that is posting it though.

Yes, I've participated in a couple of silent auctions. It was fun. I actually won the bid on one of them.

Yeah, I know churches like to sponsor them. I participated in a couple but didn't win anything.

I think that is the usual way it is done or with signs or something.

No, I am not. It does not happen in our area. But I often heard the government offering auctions in certain cities. I'm also intrigued at how they conduct it, like everyone understood what the figures mean by a mere flip of the finger.

You have to be careful with the finger flipping.
