Rain, rain, and rain. I’ll take it over the severe weather forecast for the Deep South (a/k/a “Dixie Alley”). When it’s rainy you can stay inside and watch a movie or listen to music…or in the case of this countdown, mix the two! Here’s another favorite from a movie. #8: As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson Play it, Sam. Play “As Time Goes By.” (Ilsa) That’s right. Not “Play it again, Sam.” This wasn’t nominated for an Oscar because the song dates to 1931 and didn’t originate with the movie. It was written for a Broadway play called Everybody’s Welcome. I don’t know if anyone remembers that play. In contrast, Casablanca is part of the American landscape. Oh, what a song, and oh, what a movie. One of my all-time favorite films, I watch Casablanca at least twice a year just on general principles. (Actually, on DVD. ) Hearing Al Stewart’s “The Year of the Cat,” with its opening verse about this film (“On a morning for a Bogart movie in a country where they turn back time, you go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre contemplating a crime”) can put me in the mood. Or a rainy Friday afternoon. Anytime is a good time for this song and this movie. Play it, Sam. As Time Goes By Written by Herman Hupfeld Recorded by Dooley Wilson From Casablanca, 1942 The world will always welcome lovers:

Never seed it. Seriously. Just never felt I needed to. Just like 'Gone With The Wind', never been there, prob'ly never go there. Likely there be somewhere near 'bouts one-hunnert fiddy movie picture shows I shoulda seed but I ne'er did. Heck, took me 'til 2020 to fin'ly watch 'Superfly'.

There’s not a lot of excitement in it. The biggest fight is the one where the Nazis’ national anthem gets drowned out by the bar crowd singing “La Marseillaise.”

Oh my goodness gracious! I'm the same way about gone with the wind! I've seen excerpts of it over the years, but never felt the desire to watch the thing. However, I did watch Superfly in the theaters a long time ago. LOL

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it as well. I’m glad DVDs (allegedly) don’t wear out.

Do you know that I have never seen this movie in its entirety? I've seen clips of it here and there, but I never watched it fully. The same thing with a couple of other classic movies that people have seen. Maybe, I should just go to the library and get some of these old classics and try to get through them nowadays! LOL But then again, time keeps passing me By!

Loved both the song and the movie. I have heard many versions of this song and I loved them all but the original from the movie always chokes me up because I remember the movie,
