How many times do you feed your puppy?

Cooper has been eating three meals a day ever since I got him. He becomes more picky about the dog food he eats as he gets older. I therefore changed adding some veggies to the dog meal. He has been refusing to eat during lunchtime for the past month, therefore feeding him twice a day is the best course of action. I first had a lot of concerns about this. After doing some research, I discovered that puppies can start eating twice a day at 6 months and older. As Cooper will turn eight months two days after, it appears there is a pattern. How do you handle your dog or puppy when it's time to eat? Image Credit: dogster.com

I don't know if I remember this correctly, I fed my dog twice a day when she was still a puppy - morning and evening. Then, when she grew older, we fed her once a day only, in the evening.

@kaka135 When I got Cooper the puppy, the owner told me to feed him thrice a day. He is fine with the dog food. After 6 months, he became a bit choosy. That is why I made it twice a day.

It seems that Cooper needs to eat twice a day now. I am glad that he likes to eat veggies with his dog food.

We do not have dogs now but we used to feed wet feed once and the dry feed would be there for them to nibble whenever they felt like

I tried to feed him dry dog food, but he does not want to touch them. So I need to put some water to make them a bit softer. I think he is used to eating twice a day now.

I have a cat. I feed him wet food in the morning, and he has dry food he can nibble on for the rest of the time.

@Shavkat We switch things up where we can to keep Chilly healthy and keep him from getting bored.

@kaylachan I am glad that your kitty cat is not choosy when being fed. Cooper does not like wet food. I tried a couple of times, but he just choose some of them.

When I was growing up, we had dogs that lived inside with us and some that lived outside only... The inside dogs got fed when we ate but the outside dogs got fed morning and evening. Sometimes the inside dogs would eat three meals and sometimes they weren't interested in lunch. *shrug*

We are on the same page. The adult dog stays outside and eats twice, too. Cooper is treated a baby in the house for now.

@Shavkat I think that's how most people feed their dogs.

@wolfgirl569 I also do that with the adult dog here. She stays outside. I must say that I do not have a problem with her.

I really appreciated that you told me this piece of information. I will let him have his food twice a day. I also noticed that he finished all.
