Setting Up a New Computer Is Nothing Like It Used to Be

I finally pulled the trigger on buying myself a new laptop yesterday. My old one has been struggling to run both Lightroom and Photoshop for a couple of years, so it was time... and this means I don't have to keep monopolizing my poor husband's laptop to play Final Fantasy XIV with him. What really struck me while I was setting it up was how darn easy it's become to transition from one computer to another. We used to have to manually back up files and transfer them on physical media. Now it's as simple as signing into a cloud account and letting the program automatically sync all of your documents and photos. Where was this feature back when hardware became obsolete before you could even get it out of the box after purchase?!

I'm loving it so far! Didn't realize how much I was struggling with the old one until I tried processing some images on the new one.

That's great, I never tried that method though. I don't want to try using a cloud account. Because your files are out there, and who knows what could happen to them? I'm still old-fashioned. Anyway, I haven't changed my laptop in years, so I don't use cloud.

I don't, either. I'd rather just copy everything over manually, especially the sensitive files. Windows 11 seems to have syncing with OneDrive turned on automatically, so if you do upgrade that'll be something to watch for. It wasn't too hard to disable but the options are kind of hidden in the settings menus.

People had to learn how to get it right. I know it's less of a headache to set something up and use it.

I got a really good deal on an open box ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 G533. I've been really happy with all of the ASUS laptops we've had, and this one just happened to be the last one left at the local Best Buy. It's probably way more computer than I'll need right now but I was looking for one that will last me at least another 5 years.

Computer?? Laptop?? So yesterday. My phone does it all, well all I need it to do. I haven't needed a computer or laptop for a few years now I bought a Chromebook and even it has become a bit obsolete.

I don't think it would be so easy for me but who knows? My husband uses Lightroom for his photography work and Photoshop from time to time. These programs are amazing really.
