Frugal Food: What's for din? 3.30.23

HEY!
I know you all were just dying to find out what I am making for dinner tonight and how much I spent on it.
Anyhoo. My mother in law got a good deal on hamburger meat, so she told me to go ahead and get some out of her freezer when we were up there earlier today, so I snagged two pounds free.
I got a pound of hot sausage at Snack Guy yesterday for $1.75. I used maybe $0.40 worth of it.
The other day when I was doing a quick sales check at Dollar General I found Idahoan mashed frozed potatoes. They are super good. You should check them out. But they were usually $5.75 on sale for $1. I used half the bag the other day, and the remaining half tonight. So fifty cents there.
Then I used some flour, seasnonings etc to make the rue for the hamburger meat which maybe cost $0.10.
Some cheese and milk in the potatoes and other stuff to make shepards pie and tonight's dinner cost a whopping $1 to feed all of us.
THATS $0.33 or so each.
Pretty good for dinner, and a home cooked shepards pie at that.
So that's what we had for dinner, what did you make?

I was craving vegetables a lot today. I made a good salad with romaine and tomatoes, etc,, we had steamed broccoli and baked chicken. Son had a baked potato as well, I couldn't have managed that as I had so many veggies. It all tasted so good to me.
It's good that you try so hard to be frugal with your cooking, and it's always wonderful to get the meat for free!

I have been craving salads too. Next time I go to Walmart I'm going to get acouple of the bagged ones.

I buy them in a pinch at times, but I honestly prefer the whole romaine heads and cut them up for salad. I love them because they have so much crunch, if that makes any sense.

@MarieCoyle I like the southwestern one, and bacon avocado. cause i can roast or cook a whole chicken and then have easy lunches for while im working or for she child to eat.
