Crime ..degree...seriousness...punishment ...and mind conditioning

Pony, Greg and I have been discussing something. I am not being a contrarian for the sake of being one. I just had this thought ages ago, and so I thought I should discuss this...and get to know how wrong am I. So yeah...the thought came up because of Donald Thump. (spelling mistake is deliberate lest he sue me). But please dissociate yourself from that personality...because this is social angle of the legal aspect I want to discuss. I would say every crime has a core part ...the other aspects of it are incidental. Of course, we punish for both the core as well as incidental aspects. The law has enough sections for that. So I feel when the implications of the core part of the crime are serious like leading to death then it should be addressed as such. In case of Donald Thump...because he denied ...10 times the hush money as penal charges. Had he not denied, two times the hush money as penal charges to the official kitty. In addition to this, he would pay whatever compensation that lawyers argue to his wife. Close the chapter. It does not mean I am discounting the mental agony. But the family hurt is different from hurting a stranger. The lady may discount the trespass keeping in view the kinder moments. Example Mrs. Clinton. Stranger cannot do so. With the death or grave injury...their entire life turns upside down. That needs to be looked at more seriously I feel. So yeah...I don't find Donald Thump news something to be happy about. Waste of court time. Are we conditioned to believe this is more serious crime than somebody texting while driving or drunken driving? The harm that can be repaired cannot be as serious as the harm that cannot be. Trump should not have been the candidate in the first place ...because of bankruptcies. How can a man with bankruptcy record manage nation's finances? Once elected, pulling him down for not serious crimes seems odd. And who knows what were the stories of other presidents? Whether in the US or elsewhere. A person is nice until he or she is caught doing something wrong. The operative word is...caught. Then the implications of the wrong and core wrong should be considered. Trump's tresspass did not lead to anybody starving, or any human trafficking or death. Did it?

I think all crimes need investigated and brought to court. But it needs to be done evenly with all groups.

Nothing will come out with this wait and see like manu high profile people around the world. They will make news for a while and become hot topic of discussion, then disappear for a while to be back again with headlines. There is no closure. Money and power are mostly abused.

Trying to make sense of the Trump mess? Good luck. IF, and I do mean IF the indictment is truly about Ms Daniels then I don't think many really care. She is and was an adult, she either was or was not paid (depending who's talking). Hush money happens all the time. But it is not illegal unless it was paid with campaign funds and there is no proof of that (that I can see). Trump had plenty of money to pay it without using campaign funds. BUT, we don't truly know what the indictment is for, so no point arguing it at this time. Far as his family is concerned, that is for them to work out just like so many other families. For all we know she knew about it just as a certain Clinton and so many others before him. This truly is a 'wait and see'.

This was not about Trump. I used the recent indictment on minor crime to elicit the difference between serious crime and minor crime.

The amount of money spent on the trials for the attacks on the Capitol and for Trump's trial must be astounding.

I agree...and that too should form part of the penalty.

@LindaOHio That means...proportionate cost of judges time, all staff time, proportionate power charges, court room rent charges, jury time cost, and an estimate of usage of fixture and fitting in the room, and travel costs of all involved ... Yeah...that an nominal 10000 USD ...perjury should be expensive...

@vandana7 I agree. He should have to pay all trial costs.
