The Psychology Behind What We Choose to Watch

I do too much thinking I guess. Double thinking and deep thinking. But I wondered why I enjoy Buffy and Angel so much. I mean lately, I have been watching a couple of episodes of one or the other before ZZzz time. I have always enjoyed the dialogue, never gets old. The characters are cute, sweet, and involved. Both ended in the early 2000s and I didn't watch them again for years. There was Beauty and the Beast, NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc,., lots of tv series I enjoyed between then and now. Went through my last marriage and had guardianship of my troubled granddaughter for about a dozen years there too. Ugh! Was then diagnosed with major depression with panic attacks and lived through the nightmare of PTSD(running to the opposite side of the house each time the doorbell rang), not fun. I think that I now watch these two because they are both good and entertaining enough to take me away from the anxiety and perplexity of my day-to-day life. And I have become a late-night watcher. I love the night. But, alone with my thoughts can be scary. Really scary. I got to watch thrillers too because they kept my mind working. But, Buffy and Angel are fun, and I have to pay attention more to catch the cute interaction between them. Depression is a weird disorder. It keeps you down until you learn how to crawl out of the black hole and find something good to keep me grounded in Happyland. You feel like you're sick but you aren't. You try to pretend all is good for the kid's sake. You feel sore and older than your years but it's just the disorder. You take your meds that don't help much but are better than nothing. You have to have something that grounds you to help lift the mood. Yep! They keep me entertained.

I'm sorry you are plagued with depression and anxiety. My meds have done wonders for me. I have been good for 13 years now with just a minor adjustment a couple of years ago. It's good that wholesome programming keeps you entertained.

My meds help my depression too. I had a lot of trouble finding one that did. I do enjoy wholesome programming. But, in my research, I may watch things that others may not find so wholesome.
