Camping in the woods

And we are deep in the woods. At least about as deep as you can get pulling a 5th wheel camper and still have water and electricity at your campsite and be able to access the internet with your JetPack. The photo is of a baby pine tree growing out of a hole in the top of the picnic table at our site. I am going to try and remember to take a picture each day and see how much it grows before we leave in 10 days. It was hot and humid when we arrived at about 4 p.m. The forecast is calling for rain tomorrow and lots of rain on Saturday with a little more rain on Sunday. Blegh. As if the rain wasn't downer enough, the high temp on Saturday is only supposed to reach 49F/8C. No, we will not be kayaking on the lake on Saturday. Later in the week, temps are supposed to climb, and maybe we can get some paddle time in before we go home on the 16th. At the moment, K is logged in at work through the hot spot on her work phone. The joys of technology. Even deep in the woods as we are, she can't escape work. On the double plus good side, she is able to work remotely and be here with me instead of stuck in the office. For all who celebrate Easter, I hope you enjoy this Easter Season. If you do celebrate Easter, what special things do you do?

Here there isn’t cell service in the woods. I’m not sure how a hot spot works. Would it work in the woods without cell service signal?

@shaggin Only if you have cell signal or you invest in a satellite phone.

These woods are located near two large and several small cities, so cell service is not a problem. The Jet Pack we use picks up and amplifies the cell signal and allows us to use wifi via our cell provider. The hot spot on our phones does the same thing, though with not as strong a wifi signal. Neither would work without cell reception.

Sounds like you all are having a good time. That pine tree will be expanding that hole for sure. Just please do not bring that pine tree home. Those trees are meant to be in the forest and not someones front yard like our house. Such a pain in the butt tree, year round with needles. I actually like the pine cones, but the needles suck.

Last evening was nice. We took the dogs for a walk around part of the campground. This morning it has been raining since we woke up. I won't be moving the little pine tree unless I do at the end of our stay to place it deeper in the woods so someone doesn't kill it when they see it growing out of the table.

Have a great time, and watch for ticks. My brother tested positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever after a tick bite…and he was just in his back yard!

@DWDavis — I was kind of shocked because it’s not like he lives in a forest or anything.

We always check for ticks after walking in the woods. Lyme Disease is the bigger worry in these parts, though RMSF can turn up.

It's the time for me to get more sleep. It's so nice that even when you are camping, K can still work

It is good that K can work from camp when I have time off and she doesn't. We get to travel more often this way.

That sounds like so much fun. We used to go camping in our RV. We camped in the woods but probably not that far back.

From our site, it's about 20 to 30 minutes to the nearest sizeable town. For this part of NC, that's deep in the woods.

@RubyHawk The weather is forecast to improve mid-week, and we might get some time on the water.

@DWDavis We camped in places like that near lakes. We enjoyed row boating.. Hope the rain stops so you can get out to kayak.

So you're not exactly 'deep' in the woods then It might be an idea to move that table or by next year it will be fixed forever.

No, not "DEEP in the woods. I think I will replant the tree deeper in the woods before we leave. Otherwise, the next campers in this site might just pull it up and cast it aside.

Can you do one of them movies like we use to do with our class note binders of someone jumping off of a diving board?

Not with my lack of drawing ability, no. And I don't have a note binder with me.

It must have been a bit special to spot this tree growing up through the picnic table. I've seen a blade of grass growing through a hole in a leaf that was on the ground. Pretty incredible really.

At first glance, I thought it was just a bit of a new branch that got blown off and stuck there. It was exciting to realize it was actually growing in the hole.

I hope you have a wonderful time, although the rain and colder temps may dampen a few of your days. We have our normal Sunday school and morning church services at church. Afterward, we will go over to Mike's mom's for a family meal. There should be 8-10 there. Happy Easter

Your Easter seems like it will be very pleasant. It has been raining since we woke up this morning. The rain on the camper roof is very relaxing.

Are you on spring break this week? Lol. We are looking at getting a new tent as soon as funds allow and getting back to camping.

Yes, our Spring Break always aligns with Easter. Some years it comes early, and some years it comes late. This is a later year. I don't mind, as later usually means warm enough to camp on the lake and go kayaking. Of course, this will be my last "Spring Break." As Retirement Day gets close, these "lasts" are starting to hit a bit harder.
