Life is like a race

I once attended a scientific seminar related to life, and this is what stuck in my mind: "That life is like a race." The lecturer said that since we were all science-minded people, he will talk about a science-related anecdote. He went on to say that the average sperm count is between 50 and 200 million, and that upon ejaculation, 14 to 150 millions of sperm could be released, Out of these millions of sperms, only one can penetrate the ovum to fertilize it and become a zygote. He went on to say that only the fastest and strongest one will survive, and so it is with people. I wanted to remind him that a sperm has no brains and people have brains, but I just shut my mouth because I was too tired to engage in a discourse. What do you think of his statement?

Sperm has no brain but it knows how to find the eggs to fertilize. To have a brain is not always enough to survive, it is true that in dangerous times being the fastest can make the difference.

I was smiling while reading your comment. Indeed, now that you have stated it, it's true that the sperm has no brain, but it knows specifically what to do. Life is a bunch of miracles.

@Jenaisle - Animals are supposed not to be intelligent, but their survival instinct tells them what to do.

I believe that the race of life is real. Even when we leave this world, we continue to compete with one another in terms of our power and intelligence, just as we did while we were still sperms vying for the egg to survive. We are constantly vying for life and love, and at some time in our lives, only one will succeed.

@Jenaisle That is how we vary from the sperm story; since we were already born, we had the option to get along with everyone and coexist. The decisions you make in life will determine whether you are better or worse.

@rsa101 Right. Our choices make up who we will eventually become. Only we could make our own choices.

I would rather enjoy the journey than be too bogged down by the destination. There is another proved scientific thing that one needs happy hormones to stay fit to survive.

Life is a race I agree but we need not focus on always coming first rather than enjoy running and learn during the process of running

I would like to believe that I was the lucky sperm that made it. It could have been another sperm though. True, sperm has no brain at that moment. Base on your post, i don't thinik he mentioned sperm having a brain when it went to the egg, it was just instinct function.

Yes, it was instinct and one of the miracles of life. Imagine that one sperm surviving among millions is truly a miracle.
