Expiry dates

Many expiry dates specially those on dry food may not be followed. Case in point is a box of cheese crackers I had ordered. They did not show any signs of cheese and so I made a complaint. Amazon in as many know is noted for satisfying a customer. They refunded me the amount and asked me to throw the stuff I still have the stuff with me as it can be eaten even though it does not have the presence of cheese. I have been feeling guilty about it but surely it is not my fault. It is now beyond the expiry date and was wondering if the stuff can still be eaten. Do you eat food if it has gone beyond the expiry date?

Last month we went to Baguio with my sisters and we had so much fun with the cold weather and fresh air. We bought Baguio products and foodies and one was the Ube bought from the market. It says "Refrigerate for & days." We went home and the ube we bought was in the fridge for 2 weeks already but there was no foul smell and it taste even good still. On the twelfth day, I woke up with my stomach trembling and in pain. I got very terrible diarrhea until the thirteenth day so I took Erceflora for 5 days. I think the Ube jam was expired even if it tasted right.

I think ignoring expiry dates is more for dry food. I under wet food expiry dates need to be respected.

Expiry dates are usually best before dates and most food are stil fien to be consumed even after the printed date. To answer your question, yes I do still eat food beyond the expiry date as long as the food is fine and shows no signs of spoilage.

Depending on if it has changed color, it might not be edible. Sometimes I like to poke it a little just to be sure.

Yes, I do eat some foods that are past their expiration dates but nothing past more than a month. Actually some still safe to consume even after 3 months but its just my personal choice to not eat anything that's past one month expired.

I would not mind eating dry foods such as biscuits but certainly not wet food

I don't let the kids eat them, but I do eat them myself, as long as they have not expired for years.

@allknowing - I am eating expired jam and it is perfect. Often the food is good well after the expiry date. I am more cautious with "fresh" food like chicken, fish and meat. You can get poisoned because fresh meats develop salmonella. I usually put in the freezer what I cannot consume immediately.

@allknowing I always put everything in the refrigerator as soon as I come home. I even bring with me a refrigerated box to put the fresh things I buy at the supermarket.

Yes all the time. I don't believe in expiry dates and now I think they are going to be phased out except for things like meat and fish. Too many people just look at a number and throw away perfectly good food without even looking at it properly.
