Is humility a virtue? Why?

There is a thin line between humility and arrogance. While I consider humility a virtue, too much of it may be actually arrogance.
One must know where to draw the line. A humble person doesn't usually carry his/her own chair, but when praised sincerely, he/she must be able to accept sincere praise. Be able to acknowledge it wholeheartedly.
For example, when a friend praises you sincerely because of your amazing achievement. Don't say: "No, that's not true.". Instead say: " Thank you. I accept your praise."
Are you humble or arrogant? Is humility really a virtue? Why?

I remember the words of a song popular some years ago : " It is hard to be humble but l am doing the best that l can" . that is all we can do really, weigh the situation and keep a balance. Keeping in mind that people perceive things differently, what they see coming from you may be completely different from the true you.

No it is just a functioning human that has humility.
Any one else is just a braggart.

I dont know. I haven/t been praised that much lately. But there was time when I was a bit arrogant I paid the price.

I agree. We don't want to brag, but be able to graciously accept sincere praise.

I would say that humility is actually related to love, as when we love truly, we love humbly, and love opens doors to be warmly accepted by others, whereas arrogance only ever closes doors.
Can humility be overdone?
No, I do not think so, as when we are not accepting compliments, it is not because of humility, but usually, it is from a lack of confidence in ourselves instead.
Humility is patient, and unless we lose patience, we will live from the right side of humility too.
Is there a wrong side to humility?
I do not think so.
Humility is insight into creative love.
Never is it push, and shove. Never a boxing glove.
Humility is recognising God in you.
Allowing God to show you how,
to bow, and love, and humbly flower.
Flower as you are, without crushing humbling power.

I see, you have valuable input in this discussion. So, humility cannot be overdone. hence, if I feel confident about myself. I while accept praise willingly. I know anything positive is related to God.
When you love someone you practice humility. I agree with that, and you said there is no negative side to humility. It is patient and expresses love. I can't argue with that. Thank you for your great contribution to this discussion.

@Jenaisle Jesus Christ was humble to come to the Earth to serve, and not be served, and his example shows how love connects to humility too, I think.
The Jews say that humility is a divine attribute of our soul, and that no harm can come from our being humble.
