My Bit of Paradise

This is one of the best photos of the side of our house in Riga, Latvia. It shows the greenhouse and the pear tree in full bloom. The yellow dandelions all around we would pick and make a delicious salad. As you can see from the photo this was my bit of paradise and it was so hard to leave it all but also too expensive and too painful to stay. We all enjoy discussions about What if? So, if at this time when I had to sell the house I had won the lottery, despite the memories and all, yes, I would have stayed, renovated the entire house, and gotten a gardener and other people to work for me. Then I would have become “Scarlett” on my own plantation.

I understand all the if’s. I moved out of my home to an apartment because of the expense. It’s better not to look back.

@RasmaSandra You might not even recognize the place. At my old home all the shrubs and flowers I so lovingly planted and cared for have all been cut away and the ground scraped clean.

@RubyHawk then if I ever traveled back to Riga i would have to keep myself from going to take a look or have a flask of whiskey in my pocket

I'm sorry you miss your home so much. I wish I had more comforting words to say, but I love that you can share what you used to have with us. You brought us to a place where we would otherwise have never been able to go.

Such a lovely place. It would have been beautiful had you stayed. But as many say, what-ifs are not worth the thoughts, we just have to move forward and think of the present and the future.

Sometimes it's best not to look back. We can't go back and change things so it can become too painful. That tree looks really lovely.

@just4him thank you but of course, I could not live there alone with all the upkeep.

@Ronrybs I had the kind of feeling a tree might have when it gets uprooted.

There are so many "what ifs" in our lives. I plan on winning the lottery and hiring a chef and a chauffeur. I've been playing the same numbers since 1989; so I figure I'm due. lolololol
