Abandoned Boat

Old boat

On my canal walk I spotted this abandoned boat, which had been vandalised. It has been several years since I last saw this happen to a boat and that one ended up underwater. Somewhat unusually, this boat has been making its way along the canal, a couple of hundred yards at a time and then resting, moored to the bank. I was wondering if the owner was trying to salvage it, but then why such a short distance? Maybe someone was hoping to claim it for their own. It has now ended up on the opposite side of the canal, next to a much larger boat. Is it home or just having a longer rest? Haven’t been for a walk that way in a while, so I need to get down there and see what has happened to. Now claimed or still making its way along the canal and if so which way towards Uxbridge? It hasn’t appeared on the branch to Paddington.

Could be, but it looks a little too dilapidated to live in. Still, time for it to be returned to service!

It is the second one I've seen on this stretch of the canal, mind you the last one was sunk

What a shame! That one is a pretty small boat, I wonder if it was stolen and abandoned.

@Ronrybs It is a shame to vandalize things just to steal what is inside.

@LadyDuck Guessing that is what happened. It was coming from Slough, where the canal ends. There are a couple of marinas, but they'd notice if it went walkies, so I do wonder where it came from

It can't get too far away on the canal, but it could have had everything of value stripped out of it

Looks like the boat has seen its better days. Would be interesting to know the entire story.

Indeed, since boat design doesn't change much I've no idea how old it is and what it has been through.

@CarolDM An exciting life on the high seas... or at least the Grand Union Canal!

It seems a shame that it’s just littering up the waterway.

Sometimes the canal network seems to be a giant waste tip.

Odd that the boat keeps getting moved. Someone must be planning to do something with it.

@Ronrybs I would think that it would be hard to lose a boat.

@Tampa_girl7 I know they found a false leg on the Underground, so it wouldn't surprise me!

I think the owner could be just around the corner and maybe would come to collect their boat within no time
