The 60s are so sixty years ago. With the end of April I’ve completed the countdown of songs that turned 60 this year. It’s time to move on…to 1973. Here are a lot of songs you still hear on the radio. And yes, they turn fifty this year. As always, this isn’t meant to make you feel old (that’s the job of arthritis ), but instead to point out just how timeless these songs are! We’ll get the ball rolling tomorrow. Meanwhile, our teaser is by Mister Alice Cooper, who’s appearing in Louisville in May…and he’ll have kids whose parents weren’t born when this song was a hit there, singing along!

I loved the 50s and 60s. I got married at the beginning of 70s and I lost track of music. Of course there are some songs that I remember and I enjoyed.

Songs from the 70s are noot from my time. I prefer the 60s. In the 70s I was interested in politics and only sang Latin American songs (plus the music from Woodstock).

1973 was a wild time for music, but I certainly understand.

@FourWalls At that time I only liked songs with political meaning.

I'm not familiar with the song but it's good. What about some Elvis, MJ, or Journey? "No More, Mr Nice Guy." I am familiar with the name Alice Cooper but not with his songs.

Journey wasn’t around in 1973, and I used Elvis last year. He’ll probably be on the 1974 list next year, too!

Hard to believe it’s 50 now. And Alice is still touring! He’ll be in Louisville in a couple of weeks.

@FourWalls Amazing how some of these artists keep going. That is how they keep living I have heard many of them say.

@CarolDM — some retire because they can’t sing anymore or for health reasons (like Neil Diamond and his Parkinson’s). Others can’t give it up because it’s in their soul.

I bought Welcome to My Nightmare right after I started listening to rock and roll (because of “Only Women”). After nothing but country music for 14 years, that was a mistake.

I didn’t listen to him all that much (I love his ballads, to the chagrin of JJ). But he was hard to avoid in those days, especially when the end of the school year came.

@FourWalls I do know the one you are talking about there. It was still popular in the 80s that time of year

I love his ballads, because I wasn’t raised on hard rock or “theatrical” rock. But I’ll freely admit that he is a master of the genre.
