Day 291 (Proverbs 23:12-16) Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge. Do not withhold correction from a child; if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You will beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from hell. My son if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself. Yes, my innermost being will rejoice when your lips say the right things. There are two kinds of people. Those who love instruction and those who despise it. Those who love instruction will correct their children when they misbehave. Doing so will keep them on the right path leading to eternal life. Those who don’t correct their children will see evil in their children, their ways only lead to hell. Solomon saw what correction did for children and those who didn’t correct their children. One led to eternal life and the other to eternal damnation. In today’s world, you see tolerance everywhere. Correcting your child can cause you to lose your children. Not correcting them causes them to misbehave to the point where they are responsible for the loss of life. You only need to turn on the news to see what trouble erupted in your neighborhood overnight and what issues face the courts. Parents are caught in the middle. As Christians, you know that correcting your child will bring them closer to God. Correction comes with love and letting your child know their disobedience is an offense to God. When they understand the reason for your correction they will behave. Teaching a child right from wrong keeps them out of hell and leads to eternal life. (Proverbs 22:6) Train up a child in the way he should go; when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Ecclesiastes 11:9 - 12:1) Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that God will bring you into judgment for all these. Therefore, remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh, for childhood and youth are vanity. Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil. God is the ultimate Judge of good and evil. When you commit your children to God and bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, you will keep them from hell. Let’s pray: Father, help me be a good parent to my children, raising them according to Your Word and keeping them from hell, and setting them on the path of eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 1 May 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

There is the saying " Spare the rod and spoil the child", that seems to have held firm back in the days. These days parents and teachers have found other ways to discipline a child without using a rod , whip, ruler etc. That could be the reason - partly - for the breakdown of discipline in the home and schools. But , my son is now in his thirties and l never had to use a rod or whatever to keep him in line....

That's good you didn't need to do that to keep him in line.

These days when physically punishing a child in the school is totally banned , I feel is responsible for the kids getting indisciplined. I hit my son with a rod when I feel his tantrums are getting beyond the limits

Schools shouldn't be physically punishing children. That should be the parents' responsibility.
