Yesterday, K and I were away all day for Son2's graduation/hooding ceremony up in Durham. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and has the right to be called Doctor. As you can imagine, we are bursting with pride over his achievement.
We went to dinner after the ceremony and enjoyed a wonderful meal at a steakhouse only a few blocks from the theater where the ceremony took place. The food was delicious, and our server was terrific.
One very special thing about yesterday was that Son2 invited his Pre-K teacher to come to the ceremony. We've known her since Son1 was in her class, and we go to church together, so she'd kept up with both boys all these years.
Son2 made sure she met his primary professor and mentor after graduation concluded. It was a special moment - his first teacher meeting his last teacher.
Do you have a special graduation story to share?

Nothing special. I graduated magna cu/m laude and didn’t fall down onstage when I got my degree.
My mom was very proud.

@DWDavis — I was very proud of having a 4.0 GPA in my major (library and information science) AND my minor (communication). Darn B’s in Psychology cost me.

My Auntie flew in from NY when I got my Ph.D. at UCSB. She met my faculty advisor, and vice versa. Sadly, both are gone now. I called my undergraduate advisor the other day. He was delighted. We hadn't spoken in decades. Something that my young friend Harper had done reminded me of him and his lectures.

That's wonderful indeed. Sincere congratulations to your son - and to you both. I'm sure he wouldn't be where he is without a bit of help from Mum and Dad. Our son has a PhD too but we didn't get to his graduation. He gained his in Ireland and at the time we couldn't make the trip.
