IT's A MYSTERY!!

At 5 PM yesterday I went down to the mailboxes and the 'usual suspects' were sitting, standing and talking so I joined them for a few minutes. I mention that because time-wise it seemed all was right. I spent the evening watching a good documentary and working on the Internet until about 9 PM and then decided to have a bite to eat so I heated up the chicken dinner I had prepared, took it to the dining table, put on a streaming movie and got the Sunday Times Art section and settled down. (I'm good at multitasking!) While I was eating my ear itched so I scratched it (in the first picture, above the ear, is a dot of red--later I decided that was what I scratched!) and continued with dinner, the movie and paper. A couple of minutes later I felt 'something' on my cheek so I put my hand there and my fingers were dripping with blood! I quickly grabbed a tissue and did what I could to stop the blooding which sort of seemed to be pouring from the ear down the cheek. When I got it under control I grabbed Liquid Skin--which I buy at The Dollar Tree--'The Better Bandage'--and put it behind the ear and along the side of it. Taking blood thinners I have found this is an easy, fast way to stop bleeding on legs, arms, etc. so I have stocked up on it! After it stopped bleeding I put my glasses back on and the stem on the right side had dried blood on it so I cleaned that off. I started thinking where/when the heck did the blood come from. I don't use a razor with a blade (I have an electric razor) so it wasn't a question of nicking myself besides I wouldn't shave behind my ear. My shirt was clean and after looking all over the apartment--I am very careful because of the blood thinners--I take 2!!--just looking at a door or the corner of a drawer can cause me to bleed!!! There wasn't any blood anywhere including the floor. I shrugged my shoulders and went back to the TV and the table. I may have scratched the liquid skin while sleeping because when I got up today I saw that I would have to buy 2 new bed pillows!!! Usually the liquid skin is 'solid' and you would have to get it off like you would take a bandage off--did I scratch while sleeping? I really don't know how the bleeding originally started but I have had a problem on my leg when I scratched it but I don't recall scratching my ear while working on the computing, eating, watching TV or ??????? Did I 'black out'? Did scratching the ear while I was eating start the flood of blood? ARGH!! Guess I'll have to wear a bandage over the liquid skin when I go to the theatre Tuesday but I won't when I go to the doctor on Wednesday. Ironically my cardiologist wanted me to talk to my vascular surgeon about getting a milder blood thinner to replace one of those I take but he wouldn't do it without my primary doctor okaying it so guess what is MY first conversation with my primary will be??? RIGHT!

My husband is on a blood thinner too and has to be SO CAREFUL. He ended up in the ER when the bleeding wouldn't stop. I hope yours stops and that you have the doctor look at it for you. Hopefully it won't be a problem by then. Happy Monday to you!

That’s scary. I worry about those blood thinners. I know how easily my dear mother of blessed memory bruised just from taking baby aspirins, so those “industrial strength” blood thinners are something!

@GreatMartin — I understand, but it just seems to me there could be a medication that gives an option between jelly and water for blood consistency.

Maybe the itch was an insect bite and when you scratched it you scraped the skin where the bite was.

Wow! That's quite an ordeal. It must have been hard to get used to having to be so careful not to even nick yourself.

Tell your doctor about it; maybe you could take other blood thinner or limit the use.
