In these days when visiting homes is rare the time a visitor spends should be utilised for some fruitful conversation. Sadly it was not so when a friend visited me yesterday.
I had invited her to eat mangoes with me.
These days we have loads of birds chirping non stop. After making a mention of that she talked about someone who has a property and all of her stay here was spent on singing the praises of that property - countless birds, countless bla bla bla.
Come on give me a break is what I wanted to say but being a guest I let her go on with it. Suffice it to say I was not happy - atleast for the mangoes she was eating she could have atleast talked about my garden, my waterfall, my birds, ......
What is your definition of a good conversation ?

I would like to think a good conversation would include a chance for both people to say what is on their mind, and also to ask about the welfare of the other person. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way, as you obviously know. It is possible after your friend left it occurred to her that she did not succeed at contributing to having a good conversation with you. Her mind might have been distracted by something, and she rambled on about inconsequential things. I would hate for you to think your friend was just inconsiderate towards you.

Sadly I did feel that way as she walked in almost with blinkers so to say. There is so much to see in my garden and spending time talking about someone else's garden non stop was not palatable.

I would restrict the conversation between what is happending in the lives of those who are in a conversation and not bring others in to it

Nowadays people don't focus on their lives. I see alot of people nowadays loosing their direction by talking about other people. This is something that it must be avoided at all costs.

You're a good conversationalist to her because you listened. People who listen to you. She is happy about you being one, but I think she should have given you the chance to talk as well. Being a good conversationalist should go both ways.
