...but not always the most cost effective option. One of the things I'm really fussy about having in my vehicle is a full-sized spare tire. I can easily put 40-50 miles of driving in on days when I have to get the kids to school, so the temporary spare most cars come with generally won't cut it. I kept the best tire from my old Corolla, which luckily took the same size tire my new Versa does. Discount Tire's website showed me a fancy chrome wheel for $96, which also wouldn't work with my factory lug nuts. Buying the ones that would work with it would add an extra $51 to the total. Then there were a few other miscellaneous fees for things like installation. It also wasn't in stock, so I'd have to wait 1-5 business days. When I dropped in this morning, they quoted me a basic wheel for $84. No special lugs, no installation charge, and they're unmounting my old tire for free, too. Plus I asked if the spare we have for the other Versa needed the special lugs, and it does, so he ran and got a bag of them from the back and just gave them to me for free. What's awesome is that that's average customer service for that location. The new one they built a few years ago is closer to us but I still get most stuff done at the older one because the guys there are fantastic.

I need a new jack for my truck. I have a good spare, but I don't want to get stranded somewhere.

I hope if I needed a tire replaced I would find a good deal like you. My dad has always handled my car needs, but of course, he’s taught me enough to know how to take care of it myself. He said it just makes him feel better to “take care” of these things for me. I pay for it, but he always finds me the best deal.

I like doing in-person shopping when I can. Glad you found a good deal for the tire.

Keep going to the older one you are getting a better deal. I would do the same thing.

I don't like the temporary spares that they provide nowadays. And when you find a place like you have, it's worth a lot to stick with them.
