Good snacks for the Amtrak train trip.

I know that the Amtrak train will have food onboard, but the price of the food will cost me more than I am use to paying. I would like to bring some snacks to cut down on the cost of the trip. I have a few ideas of the snacks I will be taking. I just have to remember that I will not be able to keep the snacks in the refrigerator to keep them from spoiling.

What types of snacks do you like? I usually take peanuts, Cheez-its, and an apple when the trip won't take too long.

@Scrapper88 That sounds like a good plan. How long is the train trip?

@DWDavis I have gotten the round trip ticket. It is going to be around 86 hours each way.

I was thinking about getting a few of the small bags of chips and one or two of the boxes of Little Debbie's. This is only going to cut down on what I buy on Amtrak. I was thinking about buying something like a hotdog or hamburger on the Amtrak train.

Many decades ago, in my country people went places by train and took hard boiled eggs, roasted chicken or chicken sandwiches and a thermos with tea or coffee. None were spoiled. And none needed to be kept until the last minute in the fridge except if you used mayo.

@Scrapper88 A roasted chicjen and some ettuce can keep for a day at least insummer. And hard boiled eggs last more. And if you can eat carbs, you can take muffins and nuts with you.

@RebeccasFarm It depends on how I feel at the time. Sometimes; I feel like getting something sweet. Sometimes; I feel like getting something salty.

The last time I was on a train several years ago, the food was awfully expensive and not very good. I would pack snacks with protein like peanut butter and nothing too awfully sweet Best wishes!

The cost of Amtrak food is the reason why I am going to get a few snacks for the trip.

Usually chocolate is a good choice since you can gain energy soon after eating it. Bananas will make you feel full. And potatochips can kill the time, especially when you are reading.

You took me to my Amtrak train experience which was from San Jose to Oxnard but the train did not go further than Santa Barbara for whatever reason and a bus was waiting for us No we did not take any snacks with us but visited the train canteen.

You have to use ingredients that do not spoil fast. Jam sandwiches, some nuts, even boiled eggs.

That's the usual business. Cost of foods is higher compared to outside. In airport , in ship, in train.
