Nathan's birthday cake

Nathan and Robert were here yesterday to celebrate Nathan's 20th birthday. Dale helped me and we had bbq ribs from the oven, baked sweet potatoes, broccoli casserole, and deviled eggs. We did the cooking over two days, so it wasn't so tiring. I made a crab quiche for the first time and the boys loved it. I might like it if I could taste it, lol. I ordered a cake from a local grocery store and I can't begin to tell you how ugly it was. I told them several times I wanted yellow layers, chocolate frosting, and bright colored decorations like they do for all birthday cakes. When I picked it up, it was all brown all over. They did write happy birthday Nathan in yellow, but it was too late to get another one. I thought well, I'll add some colored sprinkles which helped a little. But when we cut the cake, not only were there no yellow cake layers, there was one fat chocolate one! And it didn't even taste good. I was so ticked off. I'll show them the photo and say, "Does that look like yellow layers to you?" Lesson learned. The closest thing we have to a bakery here is Walmart. But sometimes their cakes aren't bad. I'm just not a cake baker, but pies I could have done. Anyway, the dinner and gifts were enjoyed and it's always great having the boys here.

I discovered a cake that my shopper delivers (from the supermarket I prefer) that is perfect and not so expensive because it is small. After that, I don´t buy anything else. In cakes, you can go very wrong. My youngest daughter buys a lemon meringue pie that I just can´t eat. And it is not even beautiful to look at. Happy birthday to Nathan!

I hope you get your money back because that isn't acceptable. I bet the crab quiche made up for it though. It sure would with me!

Isn't that an awful looking thing? I couldn't tell if the quiche was good, but the guys liked it.

Well it looks delicious to me although it definitely is not even close to what you asked for and were expecting. I’m glad the rest of the day was enjoyable though.

The dinner was good, anyway. How are you and the kids feeling? Did all of you get antibiotics?

I am so sorry the cake was not what you expected. Just looking at it you can say that it's "too much chocolate". I am glad that the celebration turned out well. Happy Birthday to Nathan.

Oh yum, this cake looks mouthwatering! Sorry it wasn't like you ordered and didn't taste very good. Happy Birthday to Nate. Crab quiche is a favorite, sounds great. Yesterday was my sweet Momma's birthday. Gone too soon.

Oh, I know you miss her. The guys liked the quiche, but I couldn't taste it. But Dale fried some white perch today and it tasted amazing.

@1creekgirl I miss her every single day. The perch sounds delicious too. Has been awhile since I had fresh fish.

Wow, I gained five pounds looking at that cake! I tend to spend a little more and shop at Meijer, because I simply can’t stand Walmart anymore.

@1creekgirl — I got a survey from Meijer after a visit earlier this week, and they asked me to explain my high ranking. I mentioned that their employees don’t mow you down while doing the pickup/online shopping the way the Wally World ones do. I’m sorry, because I love Walmart’s pina colada soda water, but unless I can find it in a “neighborhood market” I’ll just go without.

The only decent stores are an hour away, so we're stuck with Walmart.

Nathan was honored by you and Dale, on his very special 20th Birthday:) No, the cake wasn't what you ordered, WalMart workers couldn't care less, many of them. They just fill the job, without actually caring about people! Your family gathering was a memorable, good time for all
