An update from the discussion about the WHAS Crusade for Children: the final tote board was over $6.2 million.
It was the second-largest total in the 70-year history of the telethon. Way to go!!! Some of you won’t be cheering today’s song from 1983, though.
Here’s today’s tune.
He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen) - Janie Fricke
With a title like that you know it’s a country song.
However, when you listen to it you might think, “Hmm, what happened?” There’s a great quote on Picky Wedia about Janie Fricke saying the song sounds “like an annoyingly peppy aerobics instructor.”
Yeah, Bob at the Country Bunker in The Blues Brothers would be griping about this not being a Hank Williams song. And, you know, he’d be right. There’s one thing about this: that driving beat will get you up to your target heart rate in a big hurry.
A side note: the late Larry Henley, who co-wrote the song, is no known relation to Don Henley. They were both born in Texas, but that’s about it. Larry Henley’s other songwriting credits include “The Wind Beneath My Wings.”
He’s a Heartache (Looking for a Place to Happen)
Written by Larry Henley and Jeff Silbar
Recorded by Janie Fricke
From It Ain’t Easy, 1983
You won’t forget him all your life:

She had a number of hits in the late 70s through mid-80s, but nothing that’ll land her in the Hall of Fame. I still love this song and a couple of other of her big hits, like “She’s Single Again.”

I’d never call her a “favorite,” but she had a couple of songs that I enjoyed. She also did “She’s Single Again” and “Down to My Last Broken Heart.”

It doesn’t have a country sound, that’s for sure.
