Digital technology and train accidents in India

A few days back India witnessed a dreadful train accident near Balasore, Odisha. The Coromondal Express collided with a stationary goods train killing hundreds of passengers. News reports say that it was because of some wrong signal from the control room that led to the accident. It is said that there was some maintenance work going on in the control room. Don't you think there should be some kind of a software or AI in the driver's chamber who can control the movement of the train when such maintenance work is going on in a railway control room? Life is precious and we can't afford to lose them just because of technological snag.

AI tech isn't perfected yet. There are still accidents happening in automated cars...
When an AI can't add 2+2 and get the answer of "4", there are still problems that need to be worked out.

That's what I am saying. We still need lot of perfection in software handling and AI.

@aninditasen Yeah, I wonder when we'll get it all working correctly?

@DaddyEvil Technology is something that we need to work on constantly. There's no place for blunder or callousness as we'll be losing lives.

They have brought in the CBI and I find it odd.

@aninditasen I think the government is busy passing the buck while it is the Railways that should be held responsible.

@allknowing Yes, the government who always lack sincerity when technology is concerned. Log on to any government website and you will find half the options not working.

I too find it odd. Let the government help the affected victims of the accident and find a solution to the smooth movement of the train that wouldn't be accident prone.

Yes, I think everything should be done to avoid these types of incidents. It seems like trains are always derailing here, and I am not sure why.

That's because of faulty track or badly maintained tracks.

I don't think we can rely on these AI softwares as yet

I hope that the authorities can upgrade the system and such tragic accident won't happen again.
