Rabbi Anton Bredskiln, was talking about the difference between our needs, and our being needed. Here is how he put it: "When we pray to God, we should not just pray to God for what we need, but to ask him to tell us what we are needed for in this life, and for his help and guidance, in our doing that, doing what we are needed to do." "How can we best live our spiritual mission for God?" "God gives you the energy to live from love, so live from love, and be yourself, fulfilling God's need in creating you for this purpose, this spiritual mission, for you." "Be needed by God, by doing for him what is needed for you to do." "In, Saint Matthew's gospel, we are told that God already knows our needs, and I am saying that he knows what we were created, or needed for too." (Matthew, chapter 6, verse 8, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”) "God calls us to do what is needed by him, and which he knows that we can do, as he created us in order for us to do it." "God calls us to fulfil the need that we are needed to fulfil." "Do not elevate your needs above what you are needed for." "God has promised to guide us in our path of fulfilling his needs, as needed, for us to fulfil." "We do not need anything of others, as much as we are needed by them." "Love someone without needing to be loved back. Love because love is needed by others." "Is love a need, or not? "Whereas love is a requirement of right living, it could be called a need, as without love, you cannot live, and you will always feel needy of that same love." "Be needed by giving of love to others, and your presence will be felt and appreciated by others, who always need more love in their lives too." Yes, it is good to feel needed, or knowing that we can do something useful. It gives us hope and motivation to keep going too. It does make us feel good too.

Rabbi Anton Bredskiln emphasizes the importance of seeking to understand what we are needed for in life and fulfilling our spiritual mission for God. By living from a place of love and being true to ourselves, we can fulfill the purpose for which God created us.

Yes, thanks. You put that well. The first thing should be for us to live from love, and then love will reveal our purpose to us, because love contains the truths of God in it, as God is love, and love is God. We are all sent here to both fulfil a need, and to do what is needed to fulfil it, that need, as only we can fulfil the mission assigned to us to complete, in our lives here. Each of us has different talents, and gifts, that can help us to fulfil the need that we came here to fulfil.

I recall telling my friend my needs were easily met and my wants were equal to my needs too, thereby giving me contentment. However, he countered his needs are elastic and that keeps him on the ball of life. Material needs can never be the be-all and end-all of life. We need to give more than take and that attitude leads to fulfillment. And the world thirsts for love but most are miserly with it. Even a smile goes a long way to spread comfort and cheer all around.

Yes, we all need love to survive, plus the other survival factors too, food, shelter, clothing etc. Our other needs are a matter of personal choice. Many these days choose a minimalistic approach to life too. We do need to take a step back from ourselves, and our own needs though, to do what is needed for the greater survival of us all, and for the connective, collective betterment of mankind, as a whole too.

@Shiva49 Yes, some of the young, are into saving the planet now, and calling for more environmental protection too, while others seem happy to embrace the new fad, vaping, and so have found still another way to ruin their lives too.

@innertalks I have seen a change in attitude in the younger generation. They are no more into saving for saving's sake like the older generations in Asian society. I recall that previous generations in India were more thinking of themselves only and closed their eyes to the suffering of the poor. Now people are more prone to calling out the injustices in society. Hopefully, we move on to a more egalitarian society away from the dog-eat-dog world that exists and is even justified in some parts of the world.
