Losing Track of the Days

Between being retired and on a camping trip, I am starting to lose track of what day of the week it is. I was reminded this morning that today is Flag Day here in the US, thus the photo for this post. The good news retirement-wise was finally hearing from the NC Treasurer's office that they confirmed my employment with the school system and will pay me my pension. They will after I fill out several pages of online forms. I'll do those once we get home. We have been enjoying our stay here in Fries. It is a great little town. Yesterday, after several of us from the camping club had lunch at the Windy River Cafe while walking home, we helped an elderly lady find her lost dog. The dog was a yellow-lap mix, young, and too much dog for the lady. When it saw her, it knocked her flat on her back in a joyous reunion. The woman was okay. K and I were able to calm the dog - she was very friendly - and get her collar and leash back on her. The lady asked me to walk the dog home for her. I did, and while the dog tried to pull me along, I quickly, gently, and with a lot of praise, convinced it to walk without pulling. The lady and our friends were astonished. I guess 30+ years of training dogs in obedience pays off at unexpected times. We saw the lady and her dog safely home and returned to camp. Last night, we grilled out with our friends at the club president's campsite. It was a nice gathering. Only 8 of us from the club are here as yet. The official rally starts Friday. Our numbers will nearly double then. Today, K and I are going to hike a section of the New River Trail. I'll tell you more about it in a future post. How is your mid-week going?
