The spiritual master, Sri Anota Berbaski, would always tell his students that the spiritual journey was never really just about self-improvement, on its own.
Here is how he put it:
"It is more about our allowing ourselves to live naturally from who we are, loving, wise, truthful beings. It is not even about unfolding, it is about being this person, right now, by our being love right now."
"Whereas God created all souls perfectly so, as perfect, the life of that soul in a physical body is not perfect until the soul lives as itself in that body, and when that body does not try to live with its mind-self, all on its own."
"We do need to retrain our minds to serve us, rather than its controlling us, though."
"We also need to refine our character, or personality, which will often try to dominate, and dictate our behaviour to us too."
'We need to work on eliminating negative traits, and negative emotions."
"Anger is such a trait, while it is also an emotional energy too."
"We can have the trait of anger, as our way of reacting, and then we fuel it into action by an emotional outburst of anger too."
"We need to awaken ourselves, and our spiritual potential, in order to live fully the purpose of our soul for us in our life."
"We need to drop old ways of behaving, and acting."
"In a lot of ways, we do not really need to be enhanced by spiritual growth, we more just need to activate the soul being that we already are."
"Being calmer, more peaceful, more aware, more understanding, might lead us to what we think is a more apt, and beneficial, life for our existence here, but these aims are often made just to try to improve our life here, rather than our trying to better serve God, and his will, for our life."
"We need to stay connected to the source of life, to God, and not try to make our own sauce, in order to just try to make the palate of our life taste better here."
'"Who you really are is enough."'
"Oriah Mountain Dreamer, a Canadian writer said this, and if we are talking about our soul self, I would agree with her here."
The master gave this talk once, when a heckler up the back yelled out:
"What sort of garbage is this? Even a child knows that it must learn stuff, in order to get their life to work here."
The old master smiled, and replied:
"Growth is haphazardly chance driven, unless the hand of God's is joined to yours, and so you then grow in the enormity of God within you. You become a bigger you, because you are allowing more of God's love to be you."
And with that response, he ended his talk, for that day.

Yes, all of the self-improvement that we make to our lives, might make our lives better, but without that connection to God, that is necessary, a better life amounts to nothing much else than just to a better life.
A good life has God in it.

When we have the attitude of gratitude to start with, things will fall into place.
God will be sensed within us and we will feel his hand of guidance every moment of life.
Allow the waft of love into us and then go about our lives here.
And when all we do is as a service to God, what have we to worry about then?
In practical terms, things are not that easy though.
Our body demands our time as our innards have to be maintained in fine fettle.

Yes, sensing God within ourselves allows us to live God-guided lives.
Even though our soul might be a spark of God, we still need to let it remain as a spark in the fires of God's love too, as otherwise, we will tend to cool off in our fervour, and live less than fully alive, and fully loving lives, for God too.
Many things require that we give time to them.
Our soul requires we acknowledge it by giving it time to be alive to us too, we must give time and reverence to God too, and ascertain what is his will is for us, in our service of him, in our lives here too.

@innertalks Our leaders have to have an awareness that "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.
What is the use of leaving this world with the blood of innocents in their hands? Is that what life is about?

@Shiva49 Yes, life must be bigger than it is just in the physicalness of us, and so we should strive to live a bigger, more meaningful life too, rather than just mundanely potter along, not caring about obtaining the greater awareness that it is possible for us to obtain.
Life is about far more than what lives on its surface, and we are not just meant to be surface swimmers, but should dive deep into its waters, to discover its real truths, for ourselves.

The message is astounding. So, we just have to allow the soul of God within us to be set free and we would live as the perfect beings that we are.
This might be where the Bible verse, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and everything would be added unto you." I got this from my memory, so it might not be the exact verse from the Bible.
Also, the saying, "Without God, I am nothing."
In summary, all we have to do is to allow the love of God to flow in us and be connected to this perfect love and we would be perfect. We don't have to learn anything.

@innertalks You're right, we don't have that faith that Jesus is postulating. If we did then we don't have to fulfill all the physical learning that we should.

@innertalks I got your point, Just as the body needs nourishment to grow and develop, we also need God's words and the Holy Spirit to nourish our souls.

@Jenaisle We also need to go through some spiritual teaching too, as our soul, needs to acquire wisdom from its experiences. When created from love, it was created perfect, but it still needs to learn/obtain the wisdom/knowledge of God.
From the Gospel of Saint John, chapter 14, verse 26.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you."
And so, as well as being guided by the love in our own soul, we need to be taught directly by God, and his Holy Spirit too, and this is why prayer is also necessary.
We are often given what we should say, as the Holy Spirit can talk directly through us too, at times.
Even the soul, can learn more. Perfection can grow more perfect, as there are levels of perfection.
A baby might be said to be perfectly created, but it can and will still grow from its initial creation of perfection too.
Right at the start, God must have thought that Man, Adam, did not need knowledge and wisdom, to live perfectly good lives, (he was created perfect without the need of these things) but after man sinned, he awakened to the presence of knowledge and wisdom, and from then on, God now wants man to acquire both wisdom and knowledge, from their living a relatively hard life here first on the Earth.
It's a hard topic to think about, and I do not know if I explained it well here, or not.
