Just like any other newly married couple we too were busy modernising our home what with a fridge, washing machine, et al. When we talked about going in for a vacuum cleaner the maid shrugged her shoulders and said that her previous employer had one but they soon discarded it. We somehow thought she was saying this as she thought her job would be at stake. We ignored her and enthusiastically went in for one. The maid refused to handle it and it fell on me to use it . What I noticed was this gadget needed pampering - clean the bags, replace the bags, connect and disconnect, get it repaired when it stopped working...... My thoughts went to the broom and that poor broom needed no maintenance but just a neat corner to rest when it was not working. You guessed it right. We are back with the broom and the maid had the last word. "I told you" We have dusters to dust furniture and tiny brushes to get to the nooks and corners.

I use it for my carpets, I cannot use a broom on the carpets. I also vacuum the walls once a year in spring to remove the little dust that the heating causes during winter.

@LadyDuck We do not have much dust here as there is hardly any traffic here and the roads are tarred.

@allknowing I have a cobweb remover that does is not as using the special brush to dust the walls. The vacuum has a special carpet brush of course.

I couldn’t do without my vacuum cleaner. I need it to suck the dust out of the carpet.

I like it for my carpeted areas. That is where they are the most useful

I never really like vacuuming. My uncle gave me his and it was so heavy to move around and bulky. I had always wanted a stick vacuum, but I never got one. Now we hardly use the vacuum since we put in laminate flooring.

I use electrostatic dust removal paper. It's very convenient to use.
