The latest trend in shootings...enough already.

In all the surrounding cities here, and in my own area as well at times, the latest thing causing major problems is teens/young adults having what is termed as ''pop-up parties.'' They gather and park and play loud music. Oh, if that was all they did, no one would object at all. But unfortunately, the parties always escalate, liquor flows, and other substances...and it ends in a massive fight or gunshots. Over the weekend, it seems there were several the police would break up in a nearby city, then the party would move elsewhere, and the problem would start all over again. Eventually, these parties almost always end with shots fired. We did have one pop-up party here for a young teen who pulled a gun on a policeman--and yes, that one even ended in shots fired. Thankfully, people injured but no one killed. One death was enough. The kids were mad because their friend was shot by a policeman--but their friend pulled a gun on the policeman, and that is the consequence. It was on camera, so there was no doubt in what happened. Maybe if there were enough policeman, possibly dozens at one time, they could surround the pop-up parties and just systematically arrest everyone for disturbing the peace or something, but it's hard to do that with more people partying than there is police. I don't have answers. I just don't understand this behavior. Someone always has a gun, someone always gets shot, and it never ends well. Then there are kids screaming that their friend was shot. The fact that the friend was wildly shooting is never addressed by the friends. They just blame the police for breaking it up. Not meaning to moan about it. It's just such a waste of life.

That's the problem with teenagers. They haven't grown up enough to realize the risks, and sure as hell weren't raised right.

Of course I blame the parents in some degree. Why are they not imparting the good values they grew up with?

@TheHorse I sure do wish I knew the answer to that question! It's like the parents just don't care where their teen even is--until there is a shooting.

@MarieCoyle There are many humans who have children who should not be parents.

All I can say is that I agree with your every sentiment. If only the adults in the community backed the authority figures, and not the foolish teenagers. I’d bet more of the adults do back the authority figures than not, it’s just that the dissenters are the loudest, and the ones the media put on television.

You are correct. As you know, I have spent much of my life working in "poor" communities, mentoring kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. Most of the parents I have worked with are not well educated. But they tell their kids "You stay away from that mess." The parents do not support thuggish behavior.

@MarieCoyle Even my Conservative hunter friends in Montana agree that there is no need for AR-15s.

Waste of life, most surely! I work with children and teenagers and finding it's getting more and more difficult for me. In religious terms, the devil appears to be winning at such places.

One of my sons wanted to be a social worker, so he worked very hard for his 4 year degree. I am sure you know that some of the places you must go as a social worker are not the safest. One of his co-workers was shot by a teenager who took off his ankle monitor. Son went back to school and has a doctorate in social work, and a safer position now. He felt he had to do this, if he wanted to try to stay alive to raise his children.

You are right. The wild, wild west, shootings are frequent and deadly accurate. And, it's everywhere.

A teenager's soul is not stable and his mind is still unstable, if you have a weapon this is not very good. Because, the emotions of teenagers at this age, easily jump!

They haven't had enough experience in life to make rational decisions, you are so right.
