Rambling Thoughts About Books

I have a reading goal of 100 books this year and I'm halfway there. Though a few could be disregarded considering they consist of such short stories. I keep all my reading lists on Goodreads, which frustratingly has an "unexpected error" today, and is off limits (maybe the Goodreads bouncer is circumventing my log-in). My Kindle is where my book reading happens, which makes reading so accessible. It's funny, because when I read a real book, I tap the paper as if it will turn the page on it's own. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited on Amazon, which provides countless books, but sometimes the quality is clumsily written at best, though there are many favorable offerings to choose from. Open Library, which has countless free books to read, is an incredible site, and my Kindle is linked to our library as they have digital books, but this can create a long waiting list. I'm way too cheap to buy a book outright, and so if these three sites don't offer it, then it's possibly I will not read it, except when I read the Bible, I use my lovely Quest Study Bible. One more ramble! I would love to read all Christian fiction, but quite often they contain dreadful romantic narratives. The men in these books do not exist in real life, so I just don't get the point. Do you have a reading goal for this summer or this year? @Hannihar gave me the idea to write this since she recently also made a post about books. https://pixabay.com/photos/hallelujah-dictionary-page-light-6516410/

@jstory07 I also love to read paperbacks. I used to read more but since Corona came along I read only on our Sabbath Day and on holidays where I cannot be on the computer or watch TV.

Have you ever read Christian fiction by Robin Jones Gunn? She wrote a few book series for teen girls, but most of her work is adult fiction, often with a humorous slant. If you like mysteries, Christian author Gilbert Morris wrote a ton of books (not all mysteries), but my favorite were the Dani (Danielle) Ross mysteries. He also did a historical fiction series with his daughter (Lynn Morris), about a female doctor in, I believe, the 1800s, the Cheney Duvall M.D. series. My sister and I read all of these books in our twenties, and just loved them. I don't know if they or available for a Kindle, but I would hope they are. In fact, my sister is 44, and still rereads the books by Gilbert Morris. My goal is to finish two books I already bought.

I actually did read many of the Cheney Duvall series, and I also read the first Winslow book this year on Open Library. Gilbert Morris is a very good writer.

I use the Kindle app on my phone more than I use my Kindle Color. My Kindle Color only holds a four hour charge while my Android phone holds a charge for several days when I'm using it as a book reader. Since I use my phone as a book reader, it's always with me so I always have books to read. I get free ebooks from the Open Library, Project Gutenberg, Amazon and the Internet Archive (WayBack Machine). I listed some of my books on Goodreads but don't use that site very often. I'm also listed on Smashwords but don't use that site very often, either. I was averaging reading around 200 books in a year but that's slowed down quite a bit lately. I do more reading on myLot than I do books now. Edit to add: I just found a site that gives more sources of free ebooks online.

@misunderstood_zombie This year I've been more on myLot than reading books... Instead of reading when I'm not playing on myLot, I've been watching friends play video games on YT.

200 books is a lot of books. Last year I read 125, and I thought I was killing it (though for some reason no one gave me a testimonial dinner ). I spend a lot of my life making lists, and Goodreads really helps with that.

@misunderstood_zombie Thank you Rhonda for mentioning me. I love books but I have a place where I like to get paperback books and so I can hold them in my hands. Also, cannot open the computer on certain holidays and on our Sabbath so prefer a book I can hold and read.

@misunderstood_zombie You are the 2nd person that mentioned the smell of the the books. I never thought of the smell. I just know I prefer to hold a book in my hands rather than read it on the computer. I still love going to bookstores to get books.

I understand and reading actual books can be quite nice, especially the smell. I don't know why but I love the musty smell of old books.
