Hidden mushrooms

After the heat of summer for 2 months followed by a healthy spell of rains, the green spaces around our apartment complex have started thriving again. I peered closely and found that a couple of spots had mushrooms sprouting up. I guess nature uses rains to reclaim it's vegetations! I have no idea if these are poisonous but kept away from touching them. Do you think they are poisonous!?

My uncle knew which mushrooms were poisonous and took his sons and nephews for mushroom picking after a rain. I wanted to go too but he said that girls could not go as there was no toilet there. So I now would not eat a mushroom that I don“t buy at the supermarket.

I don't blame you. I would not want to eat those mushrooms either. I hope they washed them well before using.

You need an expert to tell. Please don't eat them. It is hard to tell the good ones from the bad ones.

@pitstop It is good to be safe. I know mushrooms are expensive at the store but maybe you can splurge once in a while to have them with something special. I think you can buy kits to grow your own. I don't know how that works but you could search it.

We have those too, and while I don't know if they are actually poisonous, I do know you are not supposed to eat them as they can make you or your pet sick. But I don't know if they are literally poisonous (it's okay to touch them at least). You are wise just not to mess with them.

There are a few dogs that take a walk here - wonder if they eat them .

@pitstop My dog is never tempted to try them, but I'm sure some owners have to keep their dogs away from them.

I dare not to pick the mushrooms outside. In fact sometimes we will receive a SMS from the health department and tell us not to pick eat the mushrooms outisde. Occasionally there will be a news about people who eat the unknown mushrooms and then they are sent to the hospital.

I know the field mushrooms that come up in our paddocks are safe to eat but you rarely see them nowadays.

@pitstop They used to come up with the first rains but I think the paddocks have been cropped so often now that they don't appear any more.

I couldn't possibly know if they are poisonous or not! Certainly do not eat them unless a professional identifies them for you. Have a good day.

I certainly won't eat them. I was also wondering if they cause a reaction if someone touched them.

There are poisonous mushrooms. The edible ones are those that grow on the clean stumps of trees, and not on corners or dirty areas.

That's useful information.

I think not all people can distinguish between good mushrooms and bad. So buying from the market directly in such cases can do good. Many wild mushrooms can indeed be poisonous.
