The taxi was just on time to fetch me for art class yesterday.
I had a cup of tea and a biscuit before we started. The lady with the little dog came this week, but she won't be here next week because she's going on holiday again! Paul wasn't there yesterday, he's doing his today instead, so they put me on the tables with everyone else because they didn't want me to be on my own!
First we had a demonstration from the tutor, then we went and chose what picture we wanted to copy from the board, or the one the tutor was doing which wasn't on the board. I chose the one the tutor had been doing.
First we sketched out the outline. Then we put on masking fluid onto the parts we wanted to save. Then, when that was dry (which didn't take long. It actually still looks wet when it's dry, well it feels tacky, but it's dry) we put in a wash of yellow ochre on the buildings, and then some on the steps, painting straight over the masking fluid. When I did the bit above the door I added salt to it to give texture. When that was dry we painted in the sky with a vegragated wash. Unfortunately some of the yellow ochre on my roof was still a bit wet and it bled through a bit. The lady opposite me asked if I was doing OK, and I said, hmm I don't know, I've got a bit of a bleed up here. And she said, oh, that's OK, that's just the sun shining through.
Next I put some different colours on the steps, a mix of burn umber and red, and a bit of grey. I had to ask the tutor how to make grey!
After that I put in the bushes at the sides using a sponge.
After that I asked for some black to put in the gate posts, and a flat brush to use to do it with. When I was waiting for the gate posts to dry the tutor said it was nearly time to finish. I knew I wouldn't be able to do any more if I wanted it to dry before I went home.
I started removing some of the masking fluid but I didn't have time to remove it all. People were putting their paintings on the floor to look at so I removed the masking tape from around the edges, which in places pulled the paper off! I put mine down with the others to look at.
When we'd finished looking at our pictures I put my things away and took some photos of the little dog. Then someone said my taxi was here, so off I went. When I got home I forgot to remind the taxi driver same time next week!
When I got in I told my Mum all about it and showed her the pictures of the little dog. Then I said I'd be finishing my painting in the dining room later, but that she shouldn't look! (Which I did).
The picture above is of the painting unfinished at class.
Today is my Mum and Step-Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary and we're going to the Jungle Street Kitchen cafe for a celebratory lunch. I won't be doing much shopping afterwards but I want to get some photos printed.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it. I did finish it off at home. It was a bit hard getting the masking fluid off but I managed.

It's comes in liquid form and you put it on where you don't want the paint to go and it looks blue. You can get some that look yellow and dry clear but the one we were using was blue. It felt tacky to the touch when it was dry, but it was dry. If you look carefully at the picture you can see the light blue masking fluid on the windows, roof and the plants in the foreground. To get it off you can use a special rubber which is not made for rubbing out pencil marks or anything like that, it's made of something like silicon or something but I can't remember exactly. Or you can just carefully rub it off with your finger, but you have to be very careful because you might rip the paper.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it.
