Saturday Evening Musings

After a day off to rest my eyes I'm back to transferring photos from my external hard drive to my flash drive. The photo in the discussion is one I may have shared here before: the Dolly Parton statue in Sevierville, Tennessee. She's proud of her mountain roots, and the list of things she's done for that area is as long as the mountains are tall. (The Smoky Mountains, ya perverts.
)
I'm watching fireworks. There are thunderstorms just west of us, and the lightning is showing up on a lot of the weather cameras. There's also the man-made kind going off amid the lightning show. Truth be told, I like watching the lightning better. There's something simply gorgeous about distant lightning.
Tomorrow is a family reunion. I hope I can make it. It's about 70 miles from me, and in case the weather gets bad I don't want to be stranded in backwoods, Kentucky.
Oh, and it's a family reunion, not a "dating service" the way things are stereotyped in the South.
I'm very thankful to say that the weather hasn't been nearly as severe as they've predicted. The weather people call that a forecast bust. I personally call it the power of prayer.
I treated myself to something I haven't had in a long time: gazpacho. It's hardly restaurant quality, but it hits the spot. I call it "cheater's gazpacho," because I use a can of diced tomatoes with chiles in it and a bottle of spicy V-8. Yeah, but it's really good! I had some for dinner last night and some tonight, and it's so much better tonight since it's had a day to sit and flavor itself up.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. For those of us in the States, hope you have a great Independence Day holiday!!

never would have thought of when you said about the mountains being tall.
I’m not a fan of fireworks I’d rather the thunder over them. Fireworks have been going off for about an hour now
.
We were supposed to have a family gathering for the Fourth of July at my house today but I called it off due to personal reasons. My mother in law is having one tomorrow and as bad as I want cake I’m not going. My husband and his son will go and take the baby. I haven’t told him yet but he and his son are camping at the moment.3 people like this

I get along with that side of the family, so the only reason I won't go is if the weather is threatening.

@FourWalls I love his family but am not fond of my husbands father. He is nice to me but absolutely awful to his wife. It’s my husband I don’t want to be around.

I will do my best to enjoy the Independence Day celebration even though there might be a chance for rain in the afternoon.

In Louisiana holiday celebrations are best enjoyed away from 100-degree heat and 100% humidity.

@FourWalls You are right since the authorities are asking anyone who is in a hot weather area to stay indoors for their safety.

That whole southern stereotype didn’t even enter my mind, but yes, we’ve got a lot of Americans who like perpetuating that stereotype, don’t we.
My dad’s family has a family reunion this time of year as well. I won’t be going, but I hope you have a great time at your family reunion.

My uncle the clown (he is a professional clown as well as an actor) will be there. Last time we had a family reunion (the last time all five of my grandparents' kids were living
) he came out with a roll of toilet paper hooked up to a weed eater and TP'd us while we were on the wagon waiting for the hayride to start.

I worked up a sweat just walking to my garage from the house, so that told me I’d better stay home in my air-conditioned cocoon.

@FourWalls This morning it was not too bad, we went for a walk. I went out a few minutes ago, around 6 p.m., it's full of mosquitoes out there, I turned back inside immediately

I hope you were able to make the reunion. When we have a reunion, it's us (the oldest) and a bunch of my husband's cousins. All the aunts and uncles have passed. Enjoy your day.

It’s too muggy to try. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to it. But maybe it’s for the best, because we’re supposed to have more storms today.
