In a vacuuming frenzy lately

We're so used to just using the good ol' broom here for sweeping and dusting that I had totally forgotten an out-of-this world invention called ze "vacuum cleaner". I so enjoy sweeping our floors despite the daily accumulation of hair just about everywhere. We do not operate a salon or a barbershop. It's just the result of having two teenage girls with brittle hair and an isolated case of possible menopausal hair loss (ehrm). Last weekend I literally bumped into our vacuum cleaner while rearranging some stuff and then in an instant thought to "Hoover" all these hairs that occasionally drive my husband mad. I had so much fun watching all those hairs (and dirt and cobwebs) disappear. I was so in a roll that I even vacuumed our dirty Beagle who was frolicking freely in the front garden. This morning, as soon as my husband left for work at 5:30 a.m., I plugged the vacuum again and worked on our portable cooler's vents. I also got rid of some cobwebs on my bedside table. (How can there be cobwebs there, eh? I cleaned that area just a few weeks ago.) Anyway, I unplugged the noisy vacuum cleaner after 15 minutes 'cause I didn't want to wake up the neighbors so early in the morning. I then mopped the floors before preparing my breakfast. It's already 1:38 p.m. as I write this and, no, I haven't used the vacuum yet again. I'll be resting for a bit at 2 p.m. and then clean the microwave later before I cook dinner.

Don't forget to cut the hair off the beater bar in the vacuum. I have to do that every time we vacuum the house. My daughter and I both have hair below our shoulder blades. And we lose quite a bit but don't have brittle hair and I'm not menopausal.

I might have to ask the husband to do what you suggested. Also: I'm very happy to know that you're not menopausal.

That is what I dislike about vacuum cleaners; they are noisy, but they are good at sucking things, unlike traditional brooms, which cause dust to float in the air.

I've yet to meet a quieter vacuum cleaner. I like to use both the vacuum and the broom. Most days I make do with the traditional broom.

@almostoveryouRegrettably, I have yet to see a quiet vacuum. That is what I dislike about vacuums, but because they are effective at removing cobwebs and do not cause dust to drift around, they are OK to use on occasion. But, because brooms are quieter, we used them more frequently, in addition to being power-free.

I almost got one from Amazon many years ago but it was too pricey at that time. I'm okay with the handheld vacuum for now as it keeps me busy, especially when I'm having lots of bad juju in my mind.

Yes, I wake up really early and try to work on as much chores as I can before I take a nap in the afternoon.

The vacuum is so much more efficient than the broom. Enjoy your day.

You’re so funny. Using a vacuum is probably the chore I consider most rewarding.

I have all wooden floors and no rugs at all. But I do go over the floors every day with my Swiffer wet mop.

That's lovely. I love wooden floors. We have them here upstairs. I rarely mop them though. Do you bother to polish?
