I think its a great feeling to be Self Employed as you will be your own boss and will work for yourself and this means there will be an inner motivation to do well and for that you can stretch even your limits as you know hard yards today will help you have a comfortable life later. I have been self employed (with my husband) during all my life.

We were trained to be self-employed by our parents. And not to be employed at all. But when I graduated I followed my heart and tried to be employed. When my sister found out, she asked me how much my salary was and told me to quit coz she finds my salary too small and told me she could just give it to me instead.

@Butterfingers I wanted time for myself and not be subjected to any pressure. A time comes in one's life where that is the kind of life one craves for.

I have been self employed many years. Not easy. You have to always keep an eye out for where you can make money. More freedom but a lot of worrying too. You have to keep money saved up in case business runs short.

I was employed for some years before I decided to become a fulltime freelancer. Being employed has more security benefits but I'd still choose to be working from home, not because I like being my own boss, but because this setup works really well for me.

@Butterfingers Thank you. It's mostly hard work and discipline. It takes a lot to motivate oneself especially if you're always just working alone.

Even if I could, I don’t know that I would want to. I think I need structure that being self-employed would not provide. However, if I had a job where my boss was terrible, I would probably rethink that notion very quickly.

If I can count now being a full-time writer since my retirement from teaching as being self-employed, which, according to the IRS, I am, then yes. I have had my business license as an independent publisher for almost 13 years now.

Honestly I haven't made planning on what I would like in the future and I think it's time I do that. Yes I want to be rich and live a comfortable life but I hadn't thought of what I actually need to do inorder to get there.

Yes, I was self employed for years. The one thing I did not like about it was filling in my yearly tax form. It used to be easy because the tax office would send me a form at the start of April every year. I would fill it in and send it back straight away and then after a couple of weeks they would send a reply to let me know they had received it. The whole process would be over by the end of April each year leaving me to enjoy my work and not worry about tax concerns. Then things changed when they closed the local tax office and things started to take longer. The self assessment form would take weeks to get to me and I would have to wait moths for their reply. This used to worry me and cause me a lot of stress because if they do not get the tax form by a certain date, they send out a fine. I always used to worry if my forms had got lost in the post and I would have to phone the office to see if they had got it. This caused me more worry because they would take ages to answer the phone and it was not a free phone number. Apart from this, I did enjoy being self employed. I could work when I wanted to and this fitted in well around my family.
